This made me remember my times in a marching band, good old days. I miss my trumpet

What greater combination with the victory parade 1945 and patriotic marches. As a school boy spectator on that unforgetable occasion I feel quite moved.

I note the Whitehall theatre was featuring Reluctant Heroes; a remarkable coincidence. The year was 1946.

Almost all 20th century English composers were great at writing pomp and circumstance music. But nobody did it better than Elgar. If anything will make you yearn for the splendor of the British Empire, these marches are it.

KZitem places ads in the middle of classical music performances - what a bunch of philistines. KZitem totally destroys it for me. To commercialise inspired musical creations is so crass and so very American.

Do you know what Sir Edward Elgar has in common with the Jackson brothers?(formerly the Jackson 5).. they were all big fans of Wolverhampton Wanderers football team

I did not know that Elgar liked football, but more surprising than that is that any American likes it (I refer to what in the United States they call soccer, not that delicacy of American football).

I see that someone has to blame the Americans for something AGAIN. I'm an Englishman married to an American and this is YET AGAIN another example of Xenophobia that some English are SO good at !
