(To Camille Saint-Saëns)
The 'Second Modern Suite' was composed in 1881, in dedication to Camille Saint-Saëns. This holds characteristics just as the first suite. During this time he was taught under Joachim Raff, which he was connected to Franz Liszt. Liszt heard MacDowell play these suites and got Breitkopf & Härtel to publish them. It is a early work by the American, with its European influences and idioms combined into his work.
