Hi, Cow Turtle, I just watched one of your Shorts about your eel pit. Do you have any videos of what one would need to start such a project like this??? I also Subscribed to your channel 😊 GREAT JOB 👏😇

Cool setup! One suggestion. Put some sort of a lips/raised/sealed off area around the holes. That way you have some protection against someone spilling something (e.g. a container of bleach, overflowing washing machine, etc) and having it run down into the pit.

I used to enjoy posing this question to people - "If you had to create a video that would get a million views on KZitem, what would you do?" I thought I had a pretty good sense of what drove people's engagement. I never would have guessed that some dude building an eel pit in an underground cistern would have me so enraptured. These eels have taught me a lot of things, including, apparently, humility. Such wise creatures.

i'd actually pay to have access to a 24h underwater live stream of the eel pit and just put it on as a sort of ambiance stream while i work or when i just wanna watch that beautiful little ecosystem for some R&R. @Cow Turtle, ifyou want to reduce the noise of your 'water fall'. Go for a ventur instead. Essentially, you have the pipe in the water, but in the centre of the pipe, you have a smaller hose that goes up to air. Essentially, creating a water vacuum that sucks air from another area and push it into the water. Increasing oxygen.

What I love about these videos and this creator is the care and proper housing for these animals. Far to many fish and reptile channels on this platform are extremely disgusting. For example right on my street in nova Scotia there is a man with very large fish in tanks unfit for it. I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. He has many LARGE catfish and Asian arowana, can't spell it sorry. And he keeps them in basically a walk in closet sized tank. Keep being a decent role model my friend.

If you make the upper part of your new filter airtight and well filled (so it won't collapse) you can achieve a much higher flow through it since then only the difference in inlet and outlet height counts. With all these fish and food in them a powerful filtration will be needed. A trickle filter on the way down might also be a very effective addition.

True marimo moss balls do well and high to little light. That would help with your oxygenation and pretty much nothing eats them (that I'm aware of or experienced) and they won't entirely take over or make a mess of your water like other moss varieties

One note on filter socks. They have to run at a low pressure diffetential to be effective. The bioslime will just push right through that unwoven floss if you push any harder than a couple inches of water column.

By far my favorite find on youtube this year. I am so curious as to what this thing could look like as your subscription base grows. Aside from upgrades to the tank itself, which I will get to, you could install Normal and IR cameras and potentially stream different sections of the pit. I recently watched an INSANE reality type show literally called fishtank where sam hyde stuck 8 people in a random house, installed multiple cameras in every room, and used a streaming service to stream the house 247 where the viewer had the ability to change cameras and watch andlisten to whichever room they pleased. Obviously that is something you COULD do when you get into the millions of subs (which you will, your channel is too unique and blows all others who make similar content out of the water), but this will be interesting to watch. As for upgrades to the pit itself, is rise in water level something you plan on doing? What other large fish could you put in that would jive well with the current occupants? I can't remember if there are shrimp, but would it be possible to find prawns large enough to survive? WIth all of the cinderblocks providing excellent cover, are there any large crustaceans you could add like crayfish or large freshwater lobster if those even exist?

That water dropping is going to raise the oxygen level by a ton. What I would do is set aquaponic racks along that back wall inside the pit with some grow lights, have the water that’s flowing down feed the plants. The water feeds the plants and the plants filter the water
