I have a question. I just had 2.5gb fiber internet hooked up and it came with 2 eero pro 6e’s. How do I hard wire from the modem or gateway eero to a back bedroom for gaming if the 2.5gb plug is used on the gateway eero? Putting a switch between the modem and gateway eero would be so easy. If only eero had two 2.5gb ethernet ports

Perhaps you can help me out I just upgraded my fiber from 500, 500 to 10001,000 And they sent me two eero 6 pro e’s Well, I had no problem setting them up but when I checked my Internet speed, it wasn’t much faster than I was at 500, 500. I’m hitting speed right around 500. Before I upgraded, I was able to hit 400 wirelessly I am paying much more for not much faster When I plug directly into My main router I’m still not hitting anywhere close to a gigabyte As a matter fact, it’s about the same as the wireless signal Now I didn’t adjust my packet or anything but I did check and make sure that my laptop has Wi-Fi and it does and it’s showing connected to Wi-Fi six Why am I not going anything near one gig? And how come I can’t separate the channels and see if I’m connecting to 2.4 or five or six? I guess it just automatically connects to one? In my properties, it says Wi-Fi six under my network adapter Although it does show a 5G network under protocols Should be confusing for someone who is computer literate Any ideas on why I’m not hitting close to my rated speed

I’ll admit that I will have to view it a couple times to make sure I understand the wireless application before I set it up. I am installing the eero in my 2000 sq Ft warehouse and sharing my neighbor’s wifi system which is on the other side of our dividing wall so hopefully it all works out because according to the geek guy that set up my TV he said the signal was weak so I don’t want to have connection issues with my laptop or stereo system. This is exactly what I've done 😊 and it works! I've installed 4 units but 3 are ethernet backhauled. Only 1 is fully wireless connected simply because there is nowhere to run cables. Just make sure your gateway eero is directly connected to your modem or hub with no switches in the way. I've run an 8 port switch from the gateway which then sends the signal around the house. Now every room has maximum WiFi strength and speed. The only thing is mobile devices can take some time to change connection between nodes, which can mean a drop in signal strength for a while it isn't instant. It's a minor niggle but I do like seeing full WiFi bars on my device. The other thing is one of the nodes just died a week ago and nothing would get it to work so I've had to buy a replacement. 😠

Please note you only need to disable the wifi from the router or modem/router to stop conflicting wifi channel signals, there is absolutely no need to disable the actual incomming internet line signal as it will just pass through and be managed from the attached mesh router.

Yes placing it in bridge mode turns off the WiFi and disabled the router functionality (not more NAT, etc). It doesn’t disable the internet signal, it now just acts just like a standalone modem.

Great video! Not sure why running into issues with my current set-up. Was hoping for your input! Have the wired backhaul setup from my main house to my detached garage using an aerial ethernet wire setup. So have the ethernet connected to my gateway eero 6E to my sattelite eero 6e in my garage. And then used the remaining 1 port to connect to my computer and was getting amazing speed around 1 gig. I wanted to add more ports so I can give those speeds to not only my computer but to my ps5 and other devices in the garage. However, it seems no matter what I try (unless I keep the original setup above) I am getting only 100 mbps speeds to the devices when using the switch (TP-Link Litewave 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch). I tried connecting the backhaul directly to the switch and then the eero and also tried connecting the backhaul first to the eero and then the switch but either ways the speed is still heavily reduced. Any tips?

I was told by eero you can mix them but it's not recommended. Remember, the Pro6E is up to 1gig while Eero 6 only up to 500mbps. In my case, I will have to use all Pro6E since my internet is 1200mbps. Thank for the video I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver my gig switch.
@landpet
Жыл бұрын
Yup, you can mix them, I’m also not a fan of mixing them for various reasons like dual band vs tri band, etc
@2ProTecK
Жыл бұрын
With a short patch cable like that, even cat5e isn't going to limit your speed. cat7 would only be needed for a medium to long length cable run. Throw a decent cat5e patch cable in there and try some speed tests compared to a cat7 patch cable. You won't see a difference
@landpet
Жыл бұрын
One of these days, when I get a chance I will have to try that. I'm just going based off the specs which does limit it to gigabit speeds.
@2ProTecK
Жыл бұрын
@landpet just remember those specs are all for full end-to-end drops. That's where you get all the usual suspects as far as degrading your signal and speed. Any bend in the cable more than cable spec allows can be enough to fail a certification, an actual kink will get you every time. Mains power running beside an ethernet run can cause hard-to-pinpoint issues, when they cross each other at 90degrees is fine. When you consider every spec needs to perform at such distances, patch cords would matter if they were part of a longer run, but the speed you can get out of a patch cable directly between a switch and a device is usually limited to the port speeds on that equipment. Having a higher Cat# isn't necessarily "better". There are pretty specific environments they have been made for. Not every type would work better in every setting.

Currently I have two eero pro 6E. Both wired on a unmanaged 2.5gb switch. The main one from the router is faster around 1.4 gbps. The second one is only getting under gig.
@landpet
5 ай бұрын
Yup because the pro 6E only has one fast port, the other port is gigabit so once it goes out from the gigabit port or comes into the gigabit port then the speeds will be capped to gigabit. If you want to get full speeds on the secondary one, you need a router with 2 ports that support the speeds you want to get, in your case both would need to be 2.5Gbps. For example the eero Max 7 would work or a cheaper alternative would be the deco x55 pro or you could get the deco be63.

I disconnected the Fidium router, then setup my Eero devices. I also have a gigabit switch to feed my home ethernet wiring. Some home devices are connected via ethernet and others are connected via wifi. Should my wired/wifi devices be connected to the same "network"? This is important, because FuboTV will allow unlimited TVs on my home network. For some reason, my ethernet devices seem to indicated they are connected to my Fidium network, even though I removed my Fidium router.

Help..My system was setup the way you said it should not be. Modem to unmanaged sw to 5 LAN/wired connections and to my Gateway eero & bridged eero via PoE ports. The eero sees all the devices, but I’m assuming can only manage the WiFi devices. LAN stays connected when eero reboots, for example. This seems like an unsafe way to connect the wired devices since they are all going out via the unmanaged sw to the Modem. Tech-support for the company who installed the system said this is how it should be set up and if I want to manage my LAN devices, I have to do it through a separate router. Your explanation seems the most simplest and I appreciate it.

I was having interference issues with my current network. To alleviate this I purchased a Deco X55 and set it up in AP mode. Things were fixed. Frontier had some specials to upgrade my speed from my 0rigianl 75 Meg up-down. So, I said yes because it was cheaper than my current bill. They sent me this Eero 6+ and told me to set it up. What a mess as it was competing with the new Mesh. So, I finally set the eero in bridge mode. The Deco has far more configurations for my needs. Can you connect to eero 6e router together? My provider gave me 1 but I need to add on and all I see is 2-3 packs

Hi @landpet, can I wire connect the 2 eeros to the first modem port? I currently have three TP-Link AP`s connected to the ports of my IPS modem and they work fine. From your video you are suggesting to connect the 2nd eero to the 1st one or to a port on and unmanged switch which is coneccted to the 1st eero. Please confirm.

Can you feasibly create a wired backhaul using something like TP-Link AV2000 Powerline Adapter, to relieve congestion on the 6ghz side as more wifi6 devices connect? As to not use or free up the 6ghz lane being used as the backhaul.

Yes you could do that

Should I use the new eero Poe Gateway as a sort of switch ahead of my 4 eero Pro 6e’s?

You could since that’s a router

If i had a hypothetical network speed faster than 2.5gb, could I connect the router directly to the unmanaged router, and then split those into the eero mesh system so that each has more than a gigabit connection?

I am new to all this so I just wanted to ask the question to clarify. I have a two story house, with a basement, being build in which all the rooms will have a cat6 plug in them. There is also going to be a central "hub" in which the modem will take the ISP signal, that will then go to a separate router, which will then connect to a switch, which then has all the plugs for the different rooms throughout the house. If I were to buy a mesh system, I would remove the router that is there, then go from modem to the new mesh router, then plug that into the switch correct? From there, if I went to the second story and wire the second mesh 'node' to the plug on the wall, that would be considered a wired backhaul correct?

What if you have a managed switch such as a NetGate? The NetGate is my firewall. There is no way that I am connecting the EERO before my NetGate.

Managed switch is different, you should be able to connect the eero afterwards, may need to run the eero on bridge mode though

Fantastic video I have recently purchased these and plan to set up next week. Your video has given me confidence. I have a question though. Wired backhall what if using an ethernet powerline adapters is that wireless or wired backhall.
@landpet

Technically it’s wired backhaul. Now a direct Ethernet would be better but power line should still be good.

What cat cable are you using? You want to be using at least cat 5e ethernet cable. Also your computer needs to have a gigabit compatible Ethernet port

Is it possible to have to have too many nodes (mesh devices)? For example, would their be any performance downgrades with devices having to switch between too many nodes as you walk throughout your house?
@landpet

yes, no more than 5 for most mesh systems

I smashed subscribe bcuz I enjoy the way you explain things and videos you post. Hoping I can get this silly question answered: If you have let’s say 200Mbps internet. Does having a Eero 6E system vs a 6 pro system matter? Like does it run smoother on one vs the other? Also side note: nice moves at 13:41 😆

Thanks! Appreciate the sub! No difference on the main router between the two. If you're going to use wireless backhaul then the secondary node may differ in speeds granted the pro 6E didn't really improve the wireless backhaul speeds. Lol I forgot about the reflex save of the modem.

Very helpful video. Have a question. I got new fiber internet and now have the eero 6e as my router. Its placed in my living, but I wont to add another 6e router downstairs to make those speeds better down there. I game and family watch movies, and my wife does work downstairs. Is it worth buying another router for my downstairs? Will increase the speeds compared on what i'm getting now with the single router? I noticed a little lag when I game, but nothing to crazy. My house is about 1,100 sq ft.. From where the modem and router are to my basement where I want another router is about 30ft away give or take. Looking forward in hearing back from you.

Thanks! Yes it will help, in fact when you plug in the second eero, try connecting your computer/gaming device directly to it's ethernet ports (even if it's in wireless backhaul). That will probably get you even better speeds. Here's an example of the speed differences for my scenario, yours will vary: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tKl6uHubeoeFlW0

I'm about to get one of these from my ISP, I've seen some of the settings via the app, but I need to do some advanced network configuration settings . I have not found any documentation on this, maybe you can make a video on that, or point me in the right direction? Thanks

Very Interesting video. I got 3 eero 6+ connected to my modem/router. As the eero managed where my device is connected, do you know if I can force specific device to connect to the closest eero? For instance my Tesla and wall connector connected several times to the farest eero beacon and speed connection is not enough fast to handle Tesla and wasp connector. Thank you again for the great video!

Unfortunately, you cannot choose which node your device can connect to. Eero does that automatically
