Abe's fingers don't care whether it's a 5 stringer or 8 stringer. He just brings out the goodness of the instrument without thinking about the size of the fretboard. God bless you, Sir. May He keep you alive as long as He sees fit; meanwhile keep making the music. One of my greatest wishes would be to meet/see you in person, shake your hand and ask for a double portion of your spirit like - like Elisha.

Danny Butwell I would pay 500 Billion dollars to hire Sir Abraham Laboriel to play a 24-String Bass Guitar (I guess that's the maximum number of strings anyone has ever put on a Bass Guitar) on my parents' wedding anniversary. He is brilliant, although 8 ain't a monster of a Bass Guitar, but he did a wonderful job.

If you get a chance, check out Abe with Lee Ritenour in Montreal. It's from 91' and a great show all around. Abe gets to step out quite a bit, and he even plays a fretless on a few songs, too. He played a lot of great stuff with Ritenour in the 80's and 90's. There are a lot of live shows from that era on KZitem. The whole Montreal concert is there, and it's worth a look. It's available on DVD, but it isn't cheap....go figure. May all musicians aspire to be as good as this humble and incredibly gifted man!

No it's not bad. A normal KORG chromatic tuner will keep ya in shape on this bass. If the tuners are good quality, they won't slip too much unless you slap and bend a lot and the strings are new. In which case just check the tuning between songs. The lighter strings move aroud a lot with temperature changes on and off stage

When you begin adding range to any instrument you begin hybridizing it. But i would say yes, an 8 string guitar can be considered a bass. if you look at most djent music there is no bass player because the 8 string guitar covers that range.
@aarondoyle5794
9 жыл бұрын
+sb792079 I believe its relative to the scale length. Bass maybe from 30"(piccolo) to 35"(extra long scale) up to 43.5 for a full sized double bass. But, technically one could also argue that an extended range instrument plays in the bass clef and treble clef. I mean where do you place a 12 stringed grand stick? Pretty sure most people would use bass and treble clef at that point much like playing a piano. Whatever, who cares anyway. We don't want people not to play these instruments right?
