To answer your question about the toy airplane. It is simply called airplane on a string. Sometimes the best answers are the simple ones...haha

Hmmm. The purpose of an 8s on Pylons is not to maintain a specific ground track (like in your base to final example) but to fix the pylon in position and parallel to the airplane’s lateral axis. Say I was hired to video some property for sale, I could have the photographer aim their camera out the window and keep the property fixed in frame while flying the pivotal altitude regardless of the wind. Pattens are about ground track, 8s are not.

I was thinking of eventually transferring to an FAA CPL after getting a CASA CPL, but this 8's on a pylon is something quite new compared to the training here in AU. Really informative video 👍

You do an amazing job at clarifying hard to understand subjects. Your online ground school is absolutely top notch.

You know I’ve not looked at the ACS yet for this maneuver and considered rudder for slip n skid to cheat and that makes so much sense as to why that’s cheating. Once im CFI my plan is to combine a cat toy with a fabric plane to demo with. Pretty sure the technical term is “A strung out plane” if that isn’t patented yet I call dibs.
