I think Chuck made the best point here when he stated how Klay was 40 short and kobe was 20 short. That's a big deal and a huge difference in an actual game. Most guys on a good night score 30. Stars score 40. You're asking guys to not just double that, but add an extra 20 on top of that. Even with three point shots, a player would need to have a near perfect game. Say someone made a NBA record 15 threes for argument's sake. There's 45 right there. Now you're talking a combo of free throws and insider shots for a combined 55 points. And unlike Wilt, there is no player who can physically dominate opponents like he could back then. Lebron doesn't have the outside game, so I won't consider him as a 100 point candidate despite being a dominant player. The reason why dominance would e so important is that now teams are sticking their best defender or two on you at all times once you hit 50, so that last 50 will be twice as hard. It's harder for guards especially because there are so many good defenders out there who can at least slow you down. I'd say there is a 99.9% chance it will never be broken. Someone could go crazy hot, but I can't see it happening. Too many variables against it. Take the Kobe and Klay games. Both had 60 through three quarters. Which means they were averaging about 20 points a quarter. They would have needed to score an additional 40 points at that point in the 4th quarter to match that. That is very highly unlikely to have happened.
@SiopaoSauc3

Imo the best chance would be to be a center playing a team that has unbelievable bad luck in losing maybe the best 3-2 big guys for the game, so he is almost unguardable. But he has to be a good free throw shooter, his teammates have to feed him the ball and maybe needs an overtime. I guess Kobe had the best chance back when Shaq left. But todays game is so more physical, even great athletes would show signs of fatigue in maybe even overtime games.

I think it would be hard to make 28 out of 32 free throws like Wilt did, plus the 57 percent efficiency he had, but lots of three pointer would be the best chance, you could shoot 40 percent from three and still have a better per two point percentage than Wilt.
@Jearbearjenkins

You’d need to make 34 three pointers to beat wilt if you only shot 3s. At 40% efficiency that’s 85 attempts… that’s insane
@samevans8922
2 жыл бұрын
@@Jearbearjenkins undoubtedly to successfully score that many points you would be going to the line a lot as well, which would make the numbers a little more likely. You would probably need at the very least 60 shot attempts(ideally mostly 3s) with a good percentage and lots of free throws it could be possible. On the other hand, I just don’t see a team playing their main guy long enough to do that, even in a close game it would probably require a very high pace and lots of one on one by the main guy (two things which by nature contradict themselves). Wilt’s 100 was possible because, not only was he far and away the best (offensive) center of the time, he also played more than anyone and got the ball more than anyone. It naturally seems more likely for a dominant center close to the basket to be able to take quick shots easier than a guard or forward. All he has to do is go to his spot and hold his hand up. I would like to see someone at least get the opportunity to try, but they’d probably need to be on a bad team, be the main guy, and be much better than the guy guarding them that night(and get lots of fouls).
@romanoonamor7690

I'm with Kenny. With the number of 3-pts we see now, why not? Nobody thought Chamberlain would do it. Of course nobody will predict it will happen. But it can, definitely. Prime Curry would be a good pick, but he's too much of a point guard and too selfless to do it. Maybe a game where he feels like it's his night to score.
@Jearbearjenkins
2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think you fully grasp just how good you’d have to be. Steph shoots close to 40% from three. The least amount of shots needed to get to 100+ (without a 4 point play) is 34. Prime steph would have to make 34 3s. That’s double Klay’s record and then some. If he shot at 40% efficiency he’d need 85 three point attempts… he’d have to play the whole game which would greatly reduce his stamina and shot efficiency and pray that they don’t throw three or more guys on him. He could score a lot of points and probably get past kobe. But he’s not getting past 100. It’s shocks me to say this but he isn’t good enough at shooting to get past 100

I think someone could if they take enough shots. It would have to be MJ or someone like MJ. I dont think anyone will do it in todays NBA because of how much the game has changed. When Wilt played there was no 3 point line and a lot less teams. Teams tended to get the ball inside. Wilt hit 29 free throws i believe. You have to draw a lot of fouls which isnt the easiest thing in the world to do. Nowadays its all about shooting and u can only make so many shots. You need someone to make almost 30 shots and double digit free throws. It is just unlikely.

Your best bet is obviously to have 34 threes. That’s the least number of shots you’d need not including 4 point plays. Suspending reality (they’d guard you to smithereens when you’re at 50 already) you’d need someone who shot at an efficiency that no nba player has ever come near to in a game. 40% which is very good would mean you’d need to take at least 85 threes. We’d need to see someone who shoots 67%+ and even then they’d need to take 52 3 pointers. An unheard of amount for one player. That record will stand for a long time

I bet LeBron could've done it in his prime if he chased that record.

@@MovieGuy666 He can score 50 points at 40 years old. I don't see what would've stopped him if he just decided to be selfish one game, especially if the team kept feeding him the ball.

The real question is, why Shaq never scored more than 70 points. He could've Chamberlained any garbage team back in the early 2000s

Because he had Kobe. I am not sure it would have been a nice locker. Besides talent, you also have to be the ultimate alpha dog on the team to do it. That´s why Curry maybe won´t do it.

I think a reason may be there is a difference in the level of shaq and then of the Giant known as Wilt. He was a freak of an athlete. Strong as shaq, fast as jordan and could get his hand up higher in game than Zion or even Vince Carter in a dunk contest setting. People try and dog the era he played in but rules were different and you dominate in the time you live in and Wilt clearly did. Did Red and the Celtics beat him a lot? sure but Wilt got through and won the title twice where I don't believe any other NBA player could have done that same feat if they grew up in that era.

+182 Burritos LeBron regularly averages 7-9 assists a game...He would be less likely than Kobe to reach 100.
