In your 5 step method, step 5 states “PR interval less than 0.02s”. I think that’s a typo, it should be “PR interval less than 0.20s”. Aside from that, really great video, learned so much! Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the video Jon. Monitor Technician here of 10 years and counting. One afib criterion is that it's ALWAYS irregular. If you see a regular (false) afib (no discernable P waves, etc.) Monitor techs never use the term "regular afib" btw, there's something else going on. This is where you check the ECG in leads III, any V leads (V1, V2, V3), and AVF (which is a V lead) to have a differential diagnosis. These leads are good at showing flutter waves.

I have ~monthly SVT episodes (avg 173 bpm). This helps me to understand the ECG from my Apple Watch and how it relates to my heart rate. While I do realize it is not a diagnostic tool, I like to record the ECG while I’m having the rapid heart rate to keep track of the basic patterns - which completely make sense now! I found these videos while seeking an explanation for the missing P-Waves. For the record, I do have a cardiologist, so no worries! I’m also things tech/science nerd, so I enjoy watching videos like these, anyway.

I thought googling symptoms was bad enough. Everything ends with brain tumors or cancer. But after watching this video now im certain im a dead man LOL. 60-100 normal bpm and im over here with 48-58 bpm (resting) for at least the last 3 years. Im sure longer. And now im peeking at 184bpm while mountain biking. Hitting it close to that 187. I guess it could be worse. My friend has POTS, Shes also a killer ER Trauma nurse. She sent me a screen shot of her heart rate ranges . 47-197 😮 Thanks for making these videos btw! As a emt/FF they didnt go very indepth on ekgs. Normally its just the medic/FF on the box that reads it. Im constantly getting my own done to watch my T wave. Slightly peaked on all of them since at least 2011. Just not sure why. My potassium, sodium, chloride are all normal. Chronic high anxiety can cause sinus bradycardia and elevated t waves. So maybe it's that. Borderline hypothyroid. I believe that can cause T wave changes and brady as well...

I am learning about all this to be better informed. I have about once a year an attack of SVT. (goes to around 235 bpm for around an hour or more) Had them since around 17 yrs of age and now 56 yrs old. Had one ablation and would like another but if I am waiting on the NHS I will probably be an old man with a long white beard before they call me in for the op. Meanwhile, I avoid caffeine and exercise hard on the hills pushing myself to red line trg at around 190 bpm. I summise that this keeps the heart strong. I have hypertrophy of the L ventricle but resting HR is typically quite high even if I am relatively fit. Had the joyous experience of a Synchronised Cardioversion 2 years ago. Always a day to remember when they hover over you with paddles and say stand clear lol

Very informative and excellent base info to start learning about ECG's, I will admit I learned at least one new thing. I do want to say that some commentators claiming to be doctors and learning more from this video than they did in med-school is absurd and makes no sense to me...this was very basic information about ECG's, it is very good base info to start with...but there is a buttload of more info learned in med school....the cell channels, ion exchanges with the change in membrane potentials, the entire biochemistry and physiology of what depolarization and repolarization, hyperpolarization really means. The targets of drugs and their mechanisms what their indications are and why they work, literally only discussed 5 different disease when there are a butt load more and also diseases that can only be interpreted with 12 lead or 15 lead ECG's. This info is great for ACLS but you should know a lot more as a doctor.

My SVT is usually 205 BPM and it will restore after valsalva maneuver. The first time my tachycardia didn't dissapeared by its own I spent 1,5 hour with that elevated heart rate thanks to incompetent heatcare system. They needed 2 ambulance and wake up one cardiologist in the middle of the night. They should just teach me the valsalva maneuver over the phone like, contract you muscles like when you on the toilet, or blow your thumb as mutch as you can.
