It’s just another Igbo dialect. lol no mind Riverine Igbos and their manufactured identity crisis. If I speak pure Awka dialect it would sound different and also similar to central Igbo.

@@udob9764 You're correct, it's not just the language. Even their looks, their culture, mannerism...there's no hiding it that they have quite a lot of similarities with the Igbos, up to the extent it kind of appears safe to call them Igbos. No Igbo is more "Igbo" than the other. We are well aware that even within the so-callled 5 Igbo states, even their dialects differ. And I know some Igbos who say they understand Ikwerre Igbo (so-called south south) better than that from say Ebonyi. E choke.

Quite different from central igbo... Tho I can pick one or two but it's too small..... Very much different from ika and ikwerre... But they use some central igbo..like madu, imeka, chineke, and also some of there name start with "chi" like most of the Igbos in hinterland... It's more hard to say they are completely igbo and but they won't be denied sub igbo heritage.... But I wish to speak central igbo if genuinely ekpeye person will understand or not...

Now i see why Ekpeye is not classified as an Igbo dialect despite it being called Igboid. It is very different. The similarities are not so much. I think people confuse the fact that Ekpeye bear some typical Igbo names to mean that their language could be similar too.

That's how the Bini kingdom is too, even the Yorubas came from there. We wear white like them, our King also dress and use their kinda beads. Don't you think it's annoying trying to teach people their history? Its just like telling Nigeria they came from Ghana because we share boundaries and speak some things that are Ghanaian? Ekpeye is never an Igbo word, Ekpeye is a tribe on its own, one of the sons of Bini kingdom that fled to this place now known as Rivers state.
