Hey! Great to find a new medium format film channel. I like that you shot difficult lighting situations for this reversal film, because that gives me a better idea how a film I've never used works in difficult conditions for it. Thank you!

Cool. Catching up on some of your videos I haven't watched since I found your channel. I shot Ektachrome (I think mostly ASA 400 back in the day) because the E6 process was something I could develop at home. Of course my parents had that Carousel slide projector to view my slide photos in brilliant glory!

I'm waiting to get my first scans back from my first roll of Ektachrome/slide film. I'm praying I haven't botched the roll. Whenever I am faced with a high contrast scenario like the one with the crooked staircase, generally I would meter for both the highlights and shadows and try and figure out where the mid-point of the two were, and maybe lean a little towards shadows or highlights if I so desire. I guess I find out how well that worked for me soon though

After talking to the guys at my lab they said that a lot of people rate the film at 125 iso or to slightly underexpose it. In the future, I will likely always meter for the highlights in high contrast situations. Hope your photos turn out!

@@BraeHunziker Somewhat! The metering was mostly great. I just need to remember to use shorter shutter speeds and to actually take a moment to hold the camera level.

I love your video but I agree with you in that you could do better. The choice subjects for your photo were less than ideal for E100. This film has almost no dynamic range and to really be punchy you need super good light and more evenly lit scenes. Looking forward to the next shots you take with Ektachrome.

Thats not accurate, Ektachrome has the highest dynamic range out of any current slide film which is not much but way better than any of the fuji films.

At the ending, you made a sensible remark. You did not have experience with slide films and that you will be back. So you agree that this was not really worth watching?

You do not show how you metered the scenes shot on Ektachrome. so all I can say is "yes, you overexposed most of the shots". When you shoot color negative film, you get used to poor metering technique, relying on scan adjustments to pull in images which are usually overexposed. The popular YT mantra of overexposing one stop over box speed heavily contributes to this problem. For slide film, you meter specifically the part of the subject you wish to have best color and density, and let the highs and lows fall where they may. If you do not have a key part of the image to meter, measure the lightest area you want top show detail, give that one stop overexposure and let it go for the rest. It sounds limiting when put that way, but if you try this, you will find that letting the dark areas fade to black is often very acceptable. Letting detailed highlights blow out just looks bad.

My thoughts exactly. In high contrast scenes it just isn't possible to expose everything correctly when using slide film, so it's best to decide on your main subject, figure out the exposure for that particular part of the scene, and let the other stuff over and under expose where it may. Getting the exposure right on a sunny day is a piece of cake, no matter what film you are using, as there will likely be only two exposure settings you can use - f.16 at 1/125 for the sunlit parts, or f.4 at 1/125 (or the equivalent) for shade. Some of the settings mentioned in the video sound a little off for the conditions, and the shot with the wacky colours is probably just overexposed. One of the best things I ever learned was how to meter without a meter by observing the scene and using the sunny 16 rule. I figured, if amateur snappers in the past could successfully expose Kodachrome in meterless Argus C3s, then it couldn't be that hard.
