Back in the day, I never really thought about how much energy it took to play this song (written mostly in 10/8) for more than 20 minutes. They must have been exhausted by the end of it. True musicians and showman.

Cameras were covered because of raining, forgive considering this was held in the biggest number-seated place for concert at the time in Tokyo - baseball stadium, of course not roofed. Such things = tens of thousand audiences for premium musician(oversea players) had never happened before they opened a huge white dome stadium in an adjacent lot in 1986. Even the Beatles performed in a smaller place. This concert was challenging.

OMG, this is phenomenal! ELP in their glory days, and here we have an ultra rare high energy live chronicle- thank you so much for sharing this with us! RIP Keith and Greg.
Very inspiring, and DAMN DID GREG LAKES VOICE SOUND GOOD OR WHAT?!?! My favorite male vocalist, well def on the top 5 list. despite his 6 string guitar being a bit out of tune, he sang with SUCH conviction. Great, rare video, totally enjoyed, THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING!

I heard Lucky Man as a kid and immediately started singing and harmonizing everything I heard. I didn't follow them much beyond Trilogy but Greg Lake's voice has always been in my head. When I heard about his passing in December I started seeking out everything ELP. I was a bit too young to ever see them live and now that I'm not young I never will. This performance, out if tune or otherwise is amazing. There's nothing like seeing a show in the rain when your heroes don't let you down and play right through it. We're lucky to have it, and Greg Lake would probably be seriously pissed that he's out if tune. Anyway, my 2 cents. I'll go get a life now.

Great video, the beginning was insane for the bass lines. I'll never understand why Greg Lake's name doesn't surface more as an influencer for so many bass players. My guess is his vocals and acoustic guitar overshadowed his bass work in many people's minds. Yeah, these guys were jaw dropping in concert, no matter what material they were touring with that year. (The caveat to this is admitting that something was horribly out of tune with Greg's LP, ouch! Amazingly, Greg's vocals are incredible though!) 50 years later and no band has encroached on their turf. RIP Keith and Greg! Godspeed to Carl!

Thanks for uploading. Just now reading Greg Lake's autobiography, he mentioned this concert in it. He and Emerson drove away to the hotel, because of riots and Palmer was still fucking the drums so they could hear him several miles away welcoming them to join him on stage. Not sure, maybe it was in the other concert on the same Japan tour, but looks like this one.

Incredibly I (we) were able to see them play live at the Club Casino Ballroom on Hampton Beach, NH many years ago. I heard a last-minute, last-moment ad for it on the radio and we made a bee-line for the coast. It was an amazing performance. Keith had his full-tilt modular Moog setup. They did the first side of Tarkus completely through...it was an amazing performance in a very good sound environment that I'll never forget. Later on they did CeLaVie and Keith came out wearing a striped Italian-style polo shirt (with beret) and playing accordion to accompany Greg's vocals...it was priceless...times I'll never forget. That was the only time that I saw ELP...so much worth that quick run to Hampton Beach.
Just saw a 1st reaction video, where the kid figured the lyrics were questioning old time Church clerics promoting the Wars of "the Crusades." 1972, wow early! With unique keyboards, drums, everything!!!!

The first prog band I ever loved in 1972...They disappointed me live though...I've seen many groups that reproduce their studio stuff note for note live but; ELP, Moreso Keith, would misplay whole sections in the wrong key, leave out poignant parts...Carl and Greg seemed to be the glue that held the band together... Tarkus is undoubtedly Keith's finest hour. Must say though, I think more recent versions of this are better - Greg's voice matured as he got older and sounds much more substantial and mellow, which I think suits this track. Good music matures well anyway though, God only Knows what the kids of today will be listening to in forty years time.
