The Columbus Foundation helps children with rare genetic diseases that have no cure and no commercial interest gain access to advanced therapies.
Culture serves as the guiding thread that helps the Columbus Foundation raise awareness of rare diseases and raise funds for treatments. With the charity football match between Real Sociedad and Bayer Leverkusen, we aim to score a goal against SPG50 and raise the necessary funds for a clinical trial at Osakidetza, in the Pediatric Department of Donostia University Hospital, and at the BioGipuzkoa Health Research Institute starting in January 2024, involving children affected by the disease from Spain, Germany, and Italy.
Elpida Therapeutics and Viralgen have joined forces to develop a treatment that is currently in clinical trials in the United States, where the product used in this trial is produced at Viralgen's facilities. In addition to the Columbus Foundation, the Association against Cancer in Gipuzkoa will support the event, and a portion of the proceeds will go towards financing projects in childhood cancer.
