That's cement lake, it's private property owned by gcc, and it's contaminated with arsenic and lead from desert mountain run-off being concentrated in a basin. Brain eating amoebas are also a concern because it's stagnant freshwater that is unmanaged and not connected to the river. That's why the game wardens run you off, nobody cares about the trespassing but they don't want you in the water for liability reason. The water isn't safe for recreation or fishing. It is sampled routinely by environmental technicians.

Lake was quite a bit larger. I used to go there when I was a little boy. I remember lots of people fishing the lake. Lots of huge catfish were caught. The lake was drained in the early 80s.

@@thoughtswordactionbeta6959 I haven't been there for many many years. But I believe you go on execitive and turn in towards the water treatment plant. You stick to the road on the left and drive behind the plant. I believe that road will take you to the small lake. I believe there is another way in off of racetrack drive. But you will need a 4x4 to drive up what appears to be about a 15 foot or so dirt road thats got a really steep incline.

Wow i never knew this lake even existed as this was so cool to see !! Just a fun fyi ... back in the 1980's there was a man made lake on the far east side out by Horizon City called 'Mountain Shadow Lakes' that allowed swimming, jet skiing, picnic areas etc. and yet sadly it eventually closed down (water permit?) and became desert land again.

I understand that this lake was made by the El Toro Cement Co., it was made so the Company Employees could have somewhere to go for El Toro Cement Company picnics and gatherings. It was also made available for Employees of El Toro to go and relax and fish and have Family Picnics.

It's going to be developed in the future. There was talk a few years ago how the development and construction at Montecillo, the other side of I-10 was going to negatively impact the 'lake'.

Back in the 1930'-50's there used to be boat races with little mini speedboats, I thought they did it in river, but maybe it was in this pond. I've seen pics, with big crowds and lots of racers

You guys should check out where they made the 1966 movie "MANOS, THE HANDS OF FATE" Its off i10 and Horizon by the EPCC. They still have the concrete pillars standing in great shape. Find out who they belong to and why there actually made.
