The reason why Robin said Steve wouldn't want to be her friend is because being gay in the 80s was way less accepted than it is these days, the time period plays a huge role in that conversation. Even today, it's similar, to be honest. I came out two years ago to my best friend of 20 years, I was his best man at his wedding, we were like brothers growing up, and after I came out, our dynamic changed... and after mulling it over for a while, he concluded that "we could no longer be as close as we once were" if I decided to continue in my sin"... so he ended our friendship. I still wish him the best, and hope he is doing well... I still love him like a brother, but haven't heard from him in over a year now. It really affected the way I thought others would react, too, since he was the first I ever told.

Which is something that I wish more modern men and boys understood. The 'friend zone' isn't a thing and solid friendships, especially with women, are way more valuable than romantic partners that will come and go. Plus, having solid friendships with women will help in navigating future romantic relationships with other women. I don't understood how (straight) men expect to succeed in romantic relationships when they have no solid friendships with women. /rant
@SlCKNESS_
3 ай бұрын
@@zissoulander Being friends with women is pointless. The same way being friends with men (just because they're men) is pointless. You should be friends with people that you have common interests with, regardless of their gender. For the most part, however, women do not have the same interests and hobbies as men. A woman being a woman does not bring value to a friendship just based on her gender. Also, plenty of dudes stuck in the friend zone, it's definitely a thing. Just not a thing you can avoid/navigate around.
Omg zissoulander is just saying people shouldn't exclude women as friends and it might help some men misunderstand women less, that's all sheesh

@@matchababy8485 - In my opinion, it's 100% Billy, crying. The Mindflayer lacks true emotion. It's why things feel weird when Billy and Heather feign being polite and happy at the dinner party. That's the Mindflayers attempt at emotion, without ever having felt it. Because the Mindflayer doesn't fully understand emotions, it has trouble controlling them, and so we see Billy's tear escape its control. @SpartanandPudgey - I feel your definition of a "badass" is off base. Being a "badass" doesn't require physical strength (though it can apply). A badass is someone who excels at what they do, with uncompromising standards. In my book, that makes Dustin one of the biggest badasses there is. He's steadfast with his friendships and loyalty, and unwavering at doing the right thing without hesitation. With a knife at his throat, he told Mike not to submit to their bullies. When Mike and Lucas were fighting, he sought a resolution and wouldn't let up until they did. When Steve and Robin were captured, he didn't leave them behind, but rather found a means to rescue them (which included facing off with an adult Russian Guard). When his friends ghost him for an entire season, he doesn't lose heart, he gains momentum at completing his task. Dustin is *100% BADASS*.

Just so you guys are aware, suppressors don’t make the gun silent in any way, shape, or form. The do this in movies, tv shows, and video games to make things “stealthy”, but all they really do is lower the sounds enough to reduce the risk to your ear drums. Guns with suppressors are still quite loud. Subsonic rounds, .22 specifically, used with a suppressor makes the guns harder to hear, especially from a distance, but they are still far from silent. Suppressors do make it much harder to actually pinpoint where a shot is coming from though, especially at distance, because it reduces sound and hides the muzzle flash. In the middle of a carnival with a bunch of people, a suppressor would next to nothing stealth wise.

Spartan, you're great,, but badassery doesn't just mean physical. The mind can be badass too, and all of them have minds that are epic. If they didn't, this show wouldn't be as good as it is. It would just be kids running or dying from danger all the time, and that would get old fast. I don't understand how some people have become convinced that if a show or movie doesn't kill off at least one of its main characters then it's a weakness or something. People like the show for the script. The level of the script mainly depends on the main characters. If they get killed off, people will still be upset, no new character that the audience liked can 100% replace an old one they also liked. Only if one of the main characters keeps getting miraculously saved, then you could say the writers are afraid to kill off their main character.
@Cau_No

You can thank "Game of Thrones" for that mindset. Killing off a main character was a rarity before that show. It happened mostly when an actor had to leave for good for some reason (as in Star Trek TNG / DS9, or the infamous "fell into an elevator shaft").

no, it was dangerous, swimming with sharks isn’t if you respect them and their home you’re in. I’d pick being around sharks over homophobes any day, only one of those to is proper dangerous. And that’s frightened hurt brainwashed homophobes for ya…

Robin saying that Steve wouldn’t even want to be her friend isn’t a lead on to something more or anything. America truly has some of the cruelest people. Still to this day in 2024, I have to be very careful with who I tell about my queerness because if the wrong person knows, it could be really bad for me. Especially living in the south. It’s frustrating and painful. And then you think about during this time when it’s set in the 80s in a small town. Robin makes complete sense here and that scene is easily one of the best in the show. Steve handles it perfectly by making her feel comfortable and not treating her any differently afterwards. It’s super heartwarming.

@@Cassxowary yes. I apologize cause I meant the southern US. That’s my bad. And you’re right, religion has a strong hold on the people around here which is frustrating.

I wonder if anyone else is noticing the pattern where a show introduces a compelling secondary character so they can kill them off and leave the main cast intact while still injecting stakes (see also: The Boys).

No redshirts you never learn much about. In this show we get episodes and episodes of character, backstory, etc. Like Bob. Or Barb. @@michaelp5956

I'm just smiling listening to your theories while knowing how season 4 turns out. All will make sense soon, just enjoy the ride. Also season 4 stories takes place in Hawkins and some outside Hawkins, so the world of Stranger Things expands!

For Pudgeys question for why people were getting killed just randomly by the demogorgon & mind flayer all is answered in season 4 however this got me thinking that there is still some unanswered mystery that leads back to season 1
