where to start.... first off, not sure what part of the world you do your work but by looking at all the comments at the end of your videos(have been an admirer for a while now) the responses have been predominantly in Spanish, so guessing Mexico? half way through my life now and never been inclined to learn the Spanish language...until today! literally! would like to express to you in words how amazing your work and video productions are, if i could only find the words to match, then to translate so its ABSOLUTELY understood. been subscribed for a while now, and along with other youtube craftmen that i have subbed to, just wanted you to know how much your work continues to inspire me and probably hundreds of thousands of people, maybe even millions combined. thank you for that. even down to the entrancing music (as if the work wasn't entrancing enough,ha) that doesnt take away from the work. God bless, and thanks, from Kansas City, Missouri, USA.

Hello friend, the channel has its origin in Spain, it happens to me like you since I would like to be able to communicate in the English language but for now I have to settle for the translator that is a very useful tool although sometimes it has its failures I must tell you that I loved your opinion of respect and appreciation towards this altruistic work that I proposed some years ago to make known the ins and outs of this beautiful and competitive profession. Young people who begin to take their first steps in this trade have These videos a small reference that can help you to observe how you work in a machining workshop. It has been a pleasure to share with you.Greetings and a hug from Spain.

In my part of the world we call that tool a "surface gage." The mast may not tilt and lock and there may not be a fine adjustment as seen on the Starrett nos. 56, 57, and 257 but it serves the same function in the machine shop in establishing parallelism to a reference surface, layout, etc. In my career shop we had many large floor mills, horizontal boring mills, vertical boring mills. We had several very large shop made surface gages (apprentice projects from generations ago) that were indispensible in setting of the humongous parts and castings that were our regular fare. The design you executed is especially handy because it's light and simple, ideal for larger work where the remaining table space is limited. It's easy to move from place to place without disturbing the setting. The monster I often used back in the day weighed 30 kilos and its settings were not all that secure. You had to be careful. I wish I had your design handy when I was making chips 20 to 50 years ago. That horizontal boring mill you use so frequently, is that a Kearns? Great machine. Versatile. Make anything on it, even little teeny parts. Even mount a big lathe chuck on the spindle face and do lathe work with a tool blocked up off the table.
@TheMetalRaymond
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Forrest. Here in Spain this machine is known as a boring machine and has a certain resemblance in the way it works to a milling machine. But there are great differences between them. The boring machines are large-scale machining machines with what can be worked on with pieces of large size and weight.This can support pieces of up to 4 tons on a table with a two-meter vertical and horizontal travel.If to this we add a 360-degree rotating table and that a head that comes with The team can say that it is the most versatile and complete machine in a machining workshop.Thanks and best regards friend.
@forrestaddy9644
4 жыл бұрын
@@TheMetalRaymond We're describing the same thing, a horizontal boring mill here in the US is apparently the same aa boring machine in Spain. For those unfamiliar with the distinguishing characteristics of these machines, here's an image of the fully equippied Kearnes HBM I had in mind: images.app.goo.gl/oi7W3cA8w7W8VFG26 - Santa, are you listening? Bring me one of these for my Christmas stocking. Dont forget the tooling package. They're often but not always equipped with an outboard support bearing at the end of the bed with an elevating bearing block that tracks the headstock through gearing and a leadscrew. When so equipped one can line bore gear cases, pumps, long sleeves etc by feeding the work with the saddle. Thus long straight bores can be achieved without having to compensate for the sag in the long boring bar. The bore can be made as straight as the saddle can track in the bedways. Time consuming but accurate. The rotary table is a very convenient and productive feature but if used for bores that have to be in alignment from those on opposte sides of the work you have to be extremely careful when offsetting reference origins when indexing the table.
