Marika was playing 4d chess
@futasnake
2 жыл бұрын
yes, marika created the tarnished to live in the face of death, free of her grace, to become more powerful. Then she recalled them after the elden ring was shattered to meet hewg, get equipped, and kill god. Marika intended for the Prince of Death to happen, as she was the one who orchestrated the black knife assassin plot. She likely even taught Ranni how to imbue the blades, as it's said to be an ancient ritual only she would know from Maliketh. It's likely from an attempt to destroy the tree, as we see his corpse's influence on Stormveil, which is rotting stone. The Great Tree, which the Erdtree is built on, doesn't burn like the Erdtree, implying it is also made of Stone. The Uhl King/White Stone Kings beard turns into tree roots, and he's holding a stone with a tree on it, implying it's HIS great tree. there's unused dialogue that implies Godfrey knew why he was being divested of grace/sent to the badlands, and there's also lines telling Marika he's come back for her in his boss fight. Her sole purpose for Maliketh was to seal away destined death, which implies she didn't have him defeat Dusk Eyed Queen. It's likely Maliketh was originally the Dusk Eyed Queen's Shadow, and judging by the Godskins, she opposed her fingers like Ranni does, and Maliketh went mad like Blaidd. There's the whole beastial subjugation of Godfrey which holds back his bloodlust, but what's overlooked is the subjugation of Serosh, likely after his god "Fled" I believe the White Stone King/Uhl King and the Dragon God to be one and the same, as we know Dragons have human forms. We also know Dragons were made of stone when he was present. I believe the Black Blade is a crag blade made from one of his scales. Elden Beast appears to be a humanoid/dragon hybrid, and the Amber Starlight implies that the Elden Star may have been used to possess an established god. It's name internally is "NebulaDragon" as well, so it may be a "Star Possessed Dragon" Millicent's Quest gives us hints as to what the Chaos Lord ending with Melina is all about, she's on the path to becoming the DEQ because she hasn't died before she realized her true purpose. Because Melina/Marika is the DEQ, who is likely the daughter of the White Stone King, and is getting revenge for the Greater Will's invasion. Translated lyrics to Godskin Apostles song implies there was a "Father" who was "overshadowed" by the Erdtree, which may be seen physically with the "NebulaDragon" being made of the same goo as the arena, implying it might be "enveloping" another being.

He strikes me as though he's simply sick of the stagnation and sense of imprisonment that comes with existing under the auspices of the Greater Will. He could be free, if he wanted to, shackles or no. But he chooses to stay so that he might forge us a weapon with which to achieve _real_ freedom; freedom from the Golden Order and the Greater Will. Freedom from stagnation. It's poetic, really. As a smith, his profession is centred around the creation of something new from something old. He takes a lump of metal and fashions it into a blade; a blade he hopes will, one day, free everyone from the shackles of tyranny under someone else's will. Whether good or bad, all he knows is what the world is like - right now - is not a world worth living in. He seeks change and manifests it in his craft. And then he gives it to you, with his blessing. To save him. To save everyone.

I like comparing this line to Shabriri’s. Honestly, Hewg’s story seems to go parallel to the frenzy flame story. Shabriri finds you right before the forge. He knows that you are attached to Melina and are strong enough to slay a god. He tries to persuade you into taking up the frenzied flame so that “chaos may take the world.” He’s gone mad, but he knows how to manipulate you into getting what he wants. He acts completely selfishly. Hewg on the other hand is like the other side of the coin. He knows what you are about to do will hurt and that you may not like it, but he still pushes you to do what is right. He also goes mad, just like shabriri, but where Shabriri turns to selfishness, Hewg turns to selflessness. He cannot even remember your name but deep down he knows that his purpose is to forge your weapon into the god slaying blade. He works to help you get there no matter his fate. Shabriri wants you to be lord so as to see his dream become reality. Hewg wants you to become lord because he knows that that is what will be best. He pushes you to do the hard thing so that you can save the world.

You remember how absolutely photo realistic MW IW was on 360? That was 10 years ago. Games just don't do much these days and they're all just kinda standard on expectations with graphics, dialogs, and character development. Obviously plenty of games are rushed and the shit feels stilted or maybe the team didn't put forth effort. But when you're matching studio energy, meh. Witcher did it, FO did it, GTA IV did it, South Park and the Stick of Truth did it. I think Hewg’s story is just all the more tragic because even after you did what he hoped you’d do, he’s still smithing weapons, because his mind is already too demented to recognize that he may now die in peace. The player meets, gods, kings, celestial beings, but none compare to the genuine loyalty and kindness of the ever faithful blacksmith and friend in Hewg, who even when he forgets everything still has your back.

I don’t know if anyone has noticed this but if you’ve ever played elden ring and you first meet him he’s forging a sword but as you but as you progress through the game he’s still working on the same sword and at one point even questions if it can kill a god but I found it kind of interesting :)

Would of been cool if the godslaying weapon was an actual weapon gifted to you by Hewg when you do his questline. Instead of it just being your fully upgraded weapon

Might have been extra interesting if the Elden Beast was weak to fully upgraded weapons somehow.

That would defeat the purpose of the freedom of Elden ring. There are so many builds to make, customization, and paths to take. The god slaying weapon is whatever you choose it to be
@blackbomber72

@@elias.t Specially since Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones explicitly say they are capable of killing gods due to their time turning properties. It would be a nice touch to have an extra 5% damage on top of the usual upgrade increase
