very happy that Jeff Goldblum name dropped Erroll Garner. Much respect. He was Such a phenomenal pianist. Garner should be the same kind of household name that Monk and Brubeck are.

He is in great form here, even though he is already looking physically unwell at this point. He died of a heart attack on 2nd January 1977, and had also been struggling with emphysema. He was only 55. Thank heavens he was a prolific recording artist and thanks to KZitem, those of us who were too young to have heard him perform live, get a chance to see and hear what thrilled audiences all over the world. Will always be my favourite jazz pianist.

People like to talk about his grunting but in this video its more like he is grasping for breath. He's not exhaling he's inhaling with his mouth wide open. Having to sit for hours in a three piece suit under stage lights cant be good for anyone's health regardless of lifestyle.

I only saw Erroll once, in an outdoor concert. What with crowd noise it wasn't the same as in a club or concert hall. BTW When Erroll was at the height of his popularity in late 50's, early 60's, he did 2 Sold Out concerts in Newsrk's Symphony Hall. His manager took out an ad in NY newspaper that Erroll would provide free bus travel from Carnegie Hall to Newark and back for NYC ticket holders. Did Keith Jarrett ever do that? 😊
