I well remember this General Election - it was the first time I was eligible to vote, two months' shy of my twenty second birthday. I remember about John Major being a cricket-loving Premier, which went down well with me. I am mad about cricket!

The title tune for BBC Breakfast News on special occasions was fabulous! A modern take on the very original theme tune for Breakfast Time from 1983. I wonder how many times it was used?

This style of Breakfast News theme was introduced in November 1986, when Breakfast Time was reformatted into a more news driven programme. Then when the BBC decided to do bread and butter news at breakfast time, they invented BBC Breakfast News, and they simply restyled their 1986 - 1989 theme. This version would last until 1993, when it was re-jigged again, this time by an orchestra, when the new virtual studio design was unveiled. However come 1997, this tune was consigned to history, as Breakfast News changed format again in June 1997, dumping this great tune after 11 years of use.

The BBC Breakfast News theme tune and title graphics during that era were magnificent. Such a contrast to the mediocre efforts today. It's probably out there somewhere; Julia Somerville announced on the previous night's News at Ten that the exit polls pointed to a Labour victory. She was unable to conceal her smile. The next morning there were many glum faces.

0:43 - When he said Northern Ireland would have their own programmes after 9.50pm this would mean their own Friday night talk show called "Anderson on the Box" hosted by their own local broadcaster Gerry Anderson (not the Thunderbirds creator) which would have aired from 9.50pm-10.50pm, then there would be a round up of their election news and their own late film to end the night. BBC One Northern Ireland would be most likely off air by 1.00am.

Which studio at Television Centre was Breakfast News using in 1992? TC7?

@@pipoo1 I have been informed that Breakfast News, On the Record and Newsnight used TC2 from 1989 to 1997.
