Enjoy your journey down the ELO rabbit hole, I envy the delights you are yet to hear for the first time. There is no such thing as a bad ELO song, just different. I know for sure that come the end you will be a massive ELO fan.

Rock + Aria (An aria is what is sung in operas and means a self-contained piece for one voice) = Rocakaria! What you said about no being really able to classify what genre they are is what I always tell people. They're like Bowie - they are their own genre! I think they're considered rock, pop, art rock, experimental, and prog rock or symphonic rock. I'll say it every chance I get: Jeff Lynne is a musical genius. :)

ELO were one of the great bands of the 70s. Telephone line is a good one. Mr. Bluesky is their classic masterpiece. .Wild west hero. There is a lot of good stuff, I'd have to refresh my memory to list more.

An unadulterated 1950s rock vibe combined with an orchestra, choir, and opera vocalist? ELO, you've got my wallet.

Down and dirty, no disco. Definitely inspired by early Beatles.

Actually, they weren't inspired by early Beatles. They were inspired by late Beatles. And for this particular song, they were inspired by Little Richard's classic, "Long Tall Sally".

This song is from their best album, New World Record. TBH this is one of their weaker tracks on the album. The album is really incredible, You will enjoy every song, seriously.

@@flanflinger37 Gotcha. Although this song is inspired by Little Richard's classic, "Long Tall Sally". Not only the music, but Jeff's "Woooooos!"

@@Cosmo-Kramer Yeh, I can see that. There are different opinions on it . One analysis of the song states ‘The music is essentially a Chuck Berry style song interlaced with operatic sections, reflected in the portmanteau title: "rock" and "aria".’ I suppose as Jeff is influenced by different styles it’s probably a mixture of both.

@@flanflinger37 Whoever wrote that is ignorant. He lazily took the "Chuck Berry" lyrical reference and crafted that meretricious comp. The song screams, "Long Tall Sally", and Little Richard. Not Chuck Berry.
