Yeah, I wish the 'waco' sockets from MK were available with nice faces and at a decent price... I found these BG black nickel ones well priced though...(They have colours beside each of the screws which I'd not seen before, probably everyone does these days 🤷♂️)

carpet will rock as a router sub-base. layer up masking tape to reduce the scratchy nature of the base. peel off & refresh if it starts to get grotty. :-j p.s. if you are getting tearout (top splinters) do a skim pass (top laminate ish only) of the ply first.

Thanks for the thoughts - you obviously know your stuff! I did do a shallow pass first (tried various things on a test piece and that seemed best). You can probably count on two hands the number of times I've used a router in 30yrs (And don't consider myself 'skilled' with any tools) this is one of the reasons I avoid lots of detail about the exact way I might have done things - I'm no expert and don't want anyone to get the idea that I'm recommending particular methodologies.
