I wrote this in honor of my father and brother, both avid chess players, who were taught the game by Eli Bourdon. (Eli created the Western Massachusetts Chess Association.) Musically, the piece is based around the opening moves of the French Defense, which was my father's preferred opening: E4 - E6, D4 - D5. This performance was rendered with MuseScore 4, which unfortunately didn't include muted trumpet sounds. But outside of that, the performance is pretty accurate.
