Hi! One secret trick is not visible is that each Pattern has its own 'Kit'. Meaning that, everytime switching to the next Pattern, the Parameter settings are Loaded to exactly how it is planned for the whole composition. This is a great way to keep everything tidy and not be scared about tweaking too much before progressing into the next Pattern.

Echoing some of the other comments here, what baffles many users is how to summon and martial all the power at their disposal to structure and pull off a live performance. I too hope this series will feature both an overview and full in depth analysis of a live set. We know there are guys out there that can pull off amazing performances like this with these boxes......we just don't know quite how they do it....yet. thanks and keep up the good work !

The 'repeating' effect is done by activating the Lock mode ON within the Delay settings. In this video, there is a Delay FX on the Master Track which has the Lock mode ON. And the Delay is controlled via the Delay CTRL mode. Please note that when you set the Lock mode to ON, the repeating effect comes into effect if the Send value is set to 0.

Good point. Part of any type of performance is a familiarity and habitual connection with the medium. The value of learning technique only shines through after countless hours of practice. Practicing difficult or non-intuitive techniques over and over (especially song transitions and tough buildups) is the only way to success. The best performances are where the user *knows* his instrument so well that there is no barrier between his real-time expressive desire and its execution.

Love the last half of this video! Might have to finally get an OT--I recently got the A4, which I adore, and which plays so nicely with my MD and MnM. And, the A4's CV control of Minimoog Model D and Sequential Circuits Pro-One is a wonderful bonus. What a surprise to find an Elektron analog box that is capable of looping in vintage and modular gear. The OT's interface scares me a bit, but it does look quite fun, when one has taken the time to learn its secrets.

That is right. In this 'track' there are about 14 patterns. And each pattern progresses more into the 'track'. It takes sometime to get the Pattern Progression correct.

While in Step Edit more, hold one or more Steps in the sequence and change parameters. You will see on the screen that the graphics become inverted and the Step LED starts flashing - meaning that there is parameter lock data.

The purely technical side aren't that hard really. It's making the music and chaining it together so it makes a proper performance that's the real trick. While i can fully understand your positions, you're really just asking to have the basics picked apart. Something that will naturally come to you as you learn to produce and perform anyways. Though i'll also admit that Elektrons gear have quite a steep learning curve for beginners and newcomers to the brand. Userguide ftw ;-) and best of luck!

Can you tell me what kind of audio leads are being used; balanced or unbalanced? I know that the A4 has balanced outputs (although the probably all do) but the Octatrack only has unbalanced inputs. Thanks.

As andries vds mentions below, i think this series would be *vastly* more helpful if you had some sort of running commentary on what you're doing. Even a brief caption summarizing each tweak (i.e., "OT: X-fader assigned to AMP VOL on two tracks of top rhythm elements, switching scenes fades both tracks", that sort of thing). An interested viewer could easily pause the video, analyze each step, and really learn something each time. Really hope you'll do something like this in subsequent videos!
