A breeding herd of African Elephants walk hastily down a hill towards a waterhole, protecting their smallest member and kicking up dust in the process. They are followed by a large bull with big tusks. Filmed in the Addo Elephant National Park.
The elephants of Addo are unique in that most of the females do not have tusks, as you may have noticed in this short video. This unusual trait probably has something to do with the fact that this particular population of elephants was hunted until only 11 individuals remained in 1931 when the Addo Elephant National Park was proclaimed to protect them.
