Yes. A lot of people just open up to me, randomly, about anything and everything. I can't say I enjoy it. I do not; it's a massive pet peeve, but I understand that sometimes people just need an ear, so I give it to them. Cause I know what it's like to feel lonely or ignored and I don't want to be the reason someone feels like that.

Well Tamera is also an introvert and Jeannie has claimed on the show she is an introvert. The thing is most introverts hate small talk but love big talk. We like getting to know people on a deeper level, not superficially. It’s not that we hate talking, it’s just that what the majority of the world likes to talk about is uninteresting to us.

I know this is about elevator talk alone, but in general we need more compassion. I used to be that person who didn’t like to talk, and I lean more towards the introverted side, but I’m always open to conversing with people. I may not be that comfortable with starting one but I instantly make people feel welcomed if they do want to talk. You never know what someone is going through, and some people are longing for that one person to just talk to. You’d be surprised on how many people that feels alone on a daily basis and don’t have anyone to talk to. Even if it’s just small talk, people usually start off with that before going deeper. I’m so used to strangers talking to me now because it happens a lot, and I personally would feel terrible if I’m giving off a vibe that I want to be left alone, and the whole time in their head they thought they found a person to vent to.

I’m like Jeannie! I worked at 1 fast food restaurant for 7 years. And I usually worked drive thru. Most drive thrus have a timer so the service is quicker. Most times I would get in trouble for messing up the time for talking to the customers. But over time I learned how to be quick but still make that customer feel heard/special during that small amount of time. But no joke, just from what I heard from the customers and them friending me on social medias after I moved, 75% of those customers either stopped or slowed down on going there once I left. Oddly I have social anxiety and I’m an introvert but I’m great at talking to people one on one lol. But I’m also good at sensing when someone doesn’t want to talk. Another thing there were 4 customers out of the many that I served there. They were sooooo dismissive and showed no interest in talking. I always gave them the same positive energy every time they came through knowing how dismissive they would react. And over time they broke, and have been some of the coolest people I have ever met. Some people just have a guard up and want to see who’s genuine and who isnt

Some small talk can be awkward, but if it happens naturally and comfortably, lean in to that! Once I was in the waiting room of an outpatient clinic and I met this sweet old lady who's husband was at the clinic. I lived away from home during college and was facing some trouble with my insurance company (the reason I was in the waiting room and not in the clinic itself) and she told me about her family's troubles with insurance as well. She said she hated the thought of me going through this without my parents so she gave me her number. We talked and she invited me over to her house for cookies and tea. After a while, I broke my phone and lost her number, but three years later and she just reached out to me again! She's truly a blessing.

I forget to come off social a lot, but sometimes I find myself answering nicely in a calm manner. I want to be able to speak to people more without coming off closed, even if I am not prepared for it. If I am not in a good mood I don't like to talk to anyone, but I that doesn't mean I should be mean to strangers who want to small talk. Adrienne sounded very angry and over the top here.

I never really initiate elevator or plane convos, but everyone who DOES initiate convo with me is SO interesting and helpful.

Small talk is like “ nice weather we’re having huh? “ lol I actually don’t mind having more meaningful convos with my Uber drivers and such. I’ve had some really interesting convos with drivers . But it has to be when it’s not early in the am lol . It’s a blessing to connect with ppl through convo. You network etc that way

Plssss dont speak to me on the elevator. I’d literally jump thru hoops to avoid elevator small talk at work. Whether it be showing up insanely early before to 8:30am crowd, taking the L and being late bc there’s a crowd of ppl waiting to get on, or climbing the 14 flights of stairs to get out of it. Pls don’t speak to me.

I think more people would like small talk if it wasn't so boring, but due to unwritten social rules you're stuck talking about boring topics like the weather. Then again, you can expand into more meaningful convos afterwards

I don't mind friendly people, and the small talk from time to tome. But when I'm eating or in a cab, I prefer my alone time because that's almost the only alone time I get from my busy day and I like to zone out.

I feel Loni. I’m required to speak a lot for work so when I clock out I want silence. I don’t like small talk. I’m busy doing xyz.

My definition for small talk is what Jeannie said - meaningless gossip or conversation that has no uplifting base and that conversation is one I do not have time to engage. I must say most times at I am on buses/elevators it is my time to meditate/alone times and most times my face is masked. I like being alone, the sound of silence is soothing but if someone says hi, I will always respond.

Honestly it’s a hit or miss with me. Sometimes I mind. But for me it kind of makes me feel better when someone acknowledges me even for a moment. Or vice versa. Even if it is just a nod and how are you...! it’s probably because I’m the type of person who can worry even about strangers feelings too. If someone looks like they could use a hey, or when you walk away and just say have a great day. Something about it can change my whole day! 🤷🏼♀️😊 sorry if I didn’t make sense.

Adrienne still has NY mentality. It’s like this in NY almost all the times. I’m like Tamera (at times). I do say hello and will press the button if necessary. But, there are times where I don’t want to talk at all.

Exactly Loni! I will plug in and put on headphones without music playing if I have a Chatty Kathy or Karl in the seat next to me. Ain't nobody tryna talk a long time on a flight ESPECIALLY when other people are listening!!!

Usually I hate small talk but I don’t mind talking a bit on the airplane. Helps to ease anxiety! I won’t initiate it but if they do I like hearing about where they’re going. I’ve had a lot of meaningful conversations on airplanes hearing about people going to see family for the first time in years etc.

I dislike small talk but i realise that a lot of people want, need to talk. Maybe you are the only person they will have a convo with this day. I don't mind listening but i hate talking. I hate small talk because i end up feeling awkward but i like it because it surely helps others or just brighten their day and i can see it when it happens.

I honestly think it depends on the type of area/environment you grew up . Adrienne is from NY and she has said in other times that New Yorkers would put a serious face so no one messes with them ( not because they want to be rude . They just don’t want to take a chance of running to someone sketchy which is common in NY especially in the city ) . I like starting small talk . I have met sweet elderly ladies or people my age and just started with a compliment if I like their outfit and can always keep it going.
@ThatZeeZee

If we are cutting it short with the responses. That means we dont wana taaaalk! You extroverts keep on going with the questions 😄 and it's not that we're rude it's just we aren't social like that, it takes time before I can start a full convo with people.

I hate small talk. Don't talk to me if I don't know you. I hate forced conversation it makes me feel uncomfortable . About 2 weeks ago I had just attended my first French class opposite the building where the class takes place is a fast food place. After my 3 hr class I decide to go get something to eat, I'm sitting there enjoying my cheeseburger and scrolling through my phone and one of my French classmates walks in and decides that out of over a 50 tables and chairs he is going to sit right opposite me 🙄. Of course I can't ignore him so now I can't even enjoy my food because my attention is divided. As I said earlier if you don't know me from Adam just leave me alone.

Literally why I started to skip my lunch at work and walk the mall. I get 1hr to myself a day and I don't want to spend it talking to you let me have my silence and find someone who wants to talk to you
