Marvin Miller was a talented radio actor. The radio actors from Orson Welles to William Conrad to Marvin Miller are sadly forgotten these days.

I have loved this movie since first watching it from TV repeats as a kid in the 1970's. Yes, this is also one of my top sci-fi movies. Several years later in the 1980's, it was funny & surprising for me to retroactively discover that Leslie Nielsen from Naked Gun & Police Squad was the serious captain in this movie, because he did not have white hair yet back then. There are also more familiar faces in there from 1970's shows that I regularly watched, such as Richard Andersen from Six Million Dollar Man, & Earl Holliman (the cook) from Police Woman. Back in the 1980's, I was also into sound/keyboard synthesizers & there was an article in Keyboard Magazine about the Barrons, so I have known about their electronic scorework here since back then. There are some youtube videos here having upscaled some scenes in HD, like maybe around 4 or 5k. They look amazing & somehow gives you a different sort of nostalgia. I wish someone would A.I. upscale the entire movie, to maybe 4k or 8k, including removing any jitter & film scratches & also a music remaster. I believe there was also a reboot in the works, but it might be in development hell at the moment.

I concur. My friend and I are always commenting on this very thing... how can you say you have such love for Fulci and Argento, and back it up by talking about their styles and how it translates to screen... and then NONE of that shows through your own creations? To _watch_ an Eli Roth film, you would never know he wasn't anything more than a hack like Brett Ratner.

Why do you have to backhand the comment like that? Why do we need to know you don't like his work? Does that make you special? Are we supposed to be interested in you now?

@@nope5657 The guy is an abysmal "artist." He knows zilch about character development or how to build tension or suspense, which is the key to making a horror movie, but Roth could care less about suspense or tension as long as he just keeps turning out profanity, tits and ass, drug usage and all the fucking bullshit that comes with the genre these days. Again I dont hate the guy as, well, a guy. But as a filmmaker he is a complete and utter talent-free hack.

1:07 to say this is an influence on STAR TREK is an understatement. Here you have the classic Id, Ego, SuperEgo (Jerry, Doc and Commander Adams. In STAR TREK, they inverted it so McCoy is the Id and Spock is the Ego), even down to Adams doing a "Captain Kirk Maneuver" on Morbius when he uses deductive reasoning to cause Morbius to "self destruct" (like what Kirk did with Nomad and Landru). You have the transporters via the "gravity chambers" that protect the crew from the FTL transition into normal space; the Commander getting the girl; the doc helping the commander to solve the mystery. Hell, I think even the coordinates they come out of FTL is 1701.

I think *Forbidden Planet* (1959) and *Things to Come* (1936) are two of the finest early 'special effect' extravaganzas! Here's a full version of "Things to come" which has to be one of the earliest post-apocalyptic movies ever made (and it's really great too! The 'future' sections especially are amazing! Ten minutes in and it's non-stop! War, spaceships, zombies!) kzitem.info/news/bejne/wqqtzIt7hKxhY4o

It's puzzling to me that no one has mentioned that Forbidden Planet is essentially a remake of Shakepeare's "The Tempest," with science as the analogue of sorcery and the electronic archives of the long-dead Krell race substituting for the spirits of Prospero's island. Dr Morbius serves as a interstellar Prospero, Altaira as Miranda, Robby the Robot as Ariel, the Id monster as Caliban, Commander Adams as Ferdinand, and Earl Holiman's "Cook" as Stephano the besotted butler. Shakespeare with ray guns.

When I saw this film growing up , I found it very boring, nothing but talk, talk , and more talk. I have grown to like it more but, it still talks too much. Just my take.
