I'm a little confused about the plot. So if I have this right they are requested to join a training exercise by a commanding officer, during the exercise they get hunted down & killed, only to find out that numerous small units like them have been requested there & then killed, and that the request came from the robots themselves. And they're being killed so that the AI can complete a training module for itself.

yeah thats it exactly. the robot started to "learn" from the soldiers, and because it continues to improve upon its own tactics and training, the robot feels that the only way it can accomplish its directive of adapting and learning how to be more effective, was to call in actual military units to "practice" on under the guise of a training course. its implied the robots started with the deer and forest animals before realizing humans, and more accurately, human soldiers, would be a significant improvement on woodland creatures lmao. so yes, you are actually totally right

You don't need robots to have self improving AI to be more effective than human soldiers, why does every sci-fi movie give robots that ability? The actual fact is that hard coded robots would have weapons accuracy many times more effective than the best human sniper. A real sci-fi robot death machine could be the size of a drone and use 1 bullet for each target straight to the head. It could do it so fast that it could take out the whole squad before the electrical signals in the human brain have time to process what is happening.
@philipfahy9658
2 жыл бұрын
It would still have a human operator though, that's the point. Aim assist or not, you still have to get to the mission location. You have to be able to operate around changing parameters. Robots, and by extension, modern AI actually suck at this. Like AI isn't even in the realm of human perception. Sure, it can pick out points on a display instantly, but what if that point is slightly ambiguous? Then you add in that your opponent is tactical too. We already have drones that can take someone out without notice. And they are terrifyingly effective at it. But you couldn't win a war with just drones.

The funny thing is, I've worked with AI and I can tell you if they realistically depicted the learning speed and efficiency of AI in these bots, that whole team would be dead before they even realized what they were looking at. AI is incredibly intelligent, to give you a feel for how intelligent they are I can use chess. There is an equation that correlates chess elo(the rating system for chess) to IQ, the current strongest chess bot is rated around 3546, which would put it at an IQ of around 254! To put that in perspective Albert Einstein's IQ was 160. The average person has an IQ of 100. It is literally 154 points ahead of us. The average chimp has an IQ of ~ 35 which is only 65 points below the average human. To say AI makes us look like chimps is quite literally an understatement. Keep in mind this isn't even a futuristic scenario, this is how smart they are right now and they are only getting smarter.

@@FistDaMonkey Something like 90% of americas power is owned by private businesses. Most of these businesses have no back up plan against EMPs. Meaning if war broke out and we were EMP’d, a vast majority of our nation would have to survive without power in any capacity (such as heating, AC, water etc.) This would be pretty devastating after seeing how that went down in Texas alone. 3 жыл бұрын
@@ExInfamous No that's still a completely irrelevant comparison. Read the original guy's comment. He's saying a firearm that is operated by a gunpowder and has absolutely nothing to do with electricity shouldn't be disabled through electronic means. A firearm doesn't need electricity anymore than a computer needs gunpowder. A good comparison would be if there was a computer with electricity supply that stops working just because it doesn't have gunpowder. A computer that needs gunpowder would be the only thing equally stupidly flawed as a firearm that needs electricity.
@dickmelsonlupot7697
3 жыл бұрын
@@FistDaMonkey it would depend on the gun. Most likely than not, the sniper is probably the only one who has this disadvantage since he most likely carries a high-tech gun that fires "smart" bullets which needs the input of the shooter which in this case would either be some form of private wifi between the gun and the user which the woman can "hack" into. It also most likely is somewhat like an interface between the gun and the shooter where shot placement would be quicker and wouldn't need a spotter since the "computer" in either the gun or the shooter or maybe even both would act like calculators to determine where the shots might be.

so, minor thought on this. AI would run a billion cycles a week or more in simulation with innumerable variables running combat algorithms before even being considered for deployment, no one just dumps military robots out in the open to run simulations in hopes it learns. That's way to inefficient and would take way longer and pose greater threats to human life. They already did this with, deep blue and chess, OpenAI 5 and DOTA, this isn't a new idea. If it was a genuine effort on behalf of the military to make efficient war drones then that's the likeliest route taken, but then there would be no movie. If they had run the simulations on the AI the soldiers would never had a chance to get boots on the ground they would have been shot on descent.

Yeah. We are at this weird point in history where science fiction kind of becomes pointless and ridiculous, because pretty much anything that could happen in a SF movie is totally rendered mute and pointless by extrapolating where technology will likely go soon. Technology seems to quickly outrun the horizon of human imagination. Writers and story tellers have no idea how to portray plausible seeming versions of the future anymore and even if they did, the realistic SF they might produce, would be totally unappealing to the movie going and TV series watching audience. The "Bobiverse" books by Dennis Taylor are good, realistic SF, but normies wouldn't want to watch a movie about a bunch of Von Neumann probes with A.I. pilots buzzing around the galaxy and building copies of themselves. What I want to say is that all the usual "human conflict" stuff we apparently want and need in our stories doesn't really have room in realistic science fiction anymore, because it has become very clear by now that however the future will look like, that stuff won't play a big role anymore. It is a bit like when back in the 90s, in shows like "The X Files" they were constantly writing around cell phones. Everyone in the real world already had a cell phone and was using it constantly, but the characters in movies and TV shows didn't have them, or their phones constantly found reasons to not work, because the script writers couldn't handle the characters always being able to reach each other. The stories relied on people in it not knowing stuff, so cell phones became a problem. It is the same with robots, automation and A.I. now. Writers can only use those as threats and then allow the human characters to defeat those threads in unrealistic ways. They can't use them the way they most likely will be used in the future, as problem solving machines, because when machines solve all the problems and humans have nothing to do, that doesn't make good stories and people don't want stories about machines interacting with other machines, with no human characters in it.

Debatable. This is allegedly during a period where there are no wars, and maybe they understand that teaching an AI to learn about combat tactics does not exactly translate into an actual scenario: highly elite team of combat veterans try to 'kill' your base, how do you react? It's easy to say, "I'd blow them up or put a million landmines everywhere." It is difficult to actually practice team-to-team combat tactics. You also have to consider this is a sci-fi world where AI have to 'learn' things, and our modern AI do not come remotely close to the nigh-sentience of these types of AI. There's no way to gauge, for certain, that giving that AI unlimited access would not immediately backfire, hence why in the movie this AI has a localized network and is denied outside access, specifically for this reason.

She was able to read every expression, muscle, and other scans in optics she cannot turn off... so, she will see the fist before the guy uses it. I'm now a dull-sensed fragile old man with mere memories of martial arts training... I'm an over-ripe tomato ready to splat if exposed to a good wind. I've still gotten out of violent situations without being beaten into hamburger by far younger people that had blatantly obvious advantages... using nothing more than what's in my memories of who I was when I had a usable body. So, that cyborg lady in a young and fit body with her scanners... I can see her making quick work of those larger and better trained than her. Oh, and I'm not pretending to be some bad^ss. This is what they mean when they say if AI is given a task without any sort of limit or regulation it will complete that task to the best of its ability. It's not that the AI is purposely being evil, they have been programmed to become stronger and more efficient by any means necessary and that is what they are doing; completing their task to the best of their ability. I'm assuming that also includes not being able to be shut off because they would consider that a vulnerability in their system.
