Eliza is definitely in the same league as Lucinda Williams, though she's seldom given credit for being so. I love and respect them both so much!!! ❤❤

Great song - I was lucky enough to catch Eliza playing in England - she is a wonderful singer/songwriter. Hope she ventures over here again one day. ❤

@daviccishman7491 - I missed that - she came to a venue near me - The Ropetackle in Shoreham - but despite having the Red Horse album I failed to recognise her name and didn't bother going. I very much regret not going.

I had the pleasure of running sound for Eliza once at a small venue in Colorado. Having lived and gigged along the Sangre de Cristo and amongst the Dine’ too, this song hit hard, still does. Green Fields slayed me , I hear the bones turning too ! The Beauty Way, may we all walk it in this lifetime.

Besuty Way, maybe a metaphor for her father's ability to enjoy the music business being different than her way of the demands to earn a living or keep her head above water. Ad in, the demands of competing in the in industry are really hard. It's a realistic view of being in this industry, to amyone who thinks it's wasy to make it. I think her father, as a second generation singer songwriter in an ealier time, that he ma 2:27 y have had an easier path. The mighty dollar is hard to come by, and all those that are truly great at this, gifted and hard working at their craft often end up in the gutter but she pushed on, didn't need an alcoholic past to know what it means to get to 70 and know this was what she was meant to be.

I know that she wrote the song and I commend her for that, but I prefer others to sing it. Check out Ray Wylie and Paul Eason

Will do cause I love this song. It is particular to her, everybodies Dad didn't write Green fields but it is one of the two best songs about playing music itself ( the other is Alejandro Escovedo's Velvet Guitar)

I like Eliza's version as well as Ray's ... With Ray's version you get both he AND Eliza since she's singing harmony on the studio cut if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe a metaphor, that her father could enjoy this path of life in music without the demands of the competition that she's had. She stayed in it though her path was filled with a harder way to make it, in many ways. In the end, I think she is saying it's not just for the money, but a person's gotta earn a living somehow. Is it a meal ticket or a calling? Maybe.
