I had the pleasure of meeting EM in 1975. I was a monorail host at Walt Disney World at the time, and one day she and Robert Foxworth were waiting at the Polynesian Resort to ride up front in the train I was driving. The meeting was brief as they were only going to the next stop, but I found them both to be delightful and gracious people. She was even more beautiful in person.

In April of this year (2023), REELZ did a special on BEWITCHED and Elizabeth Montgomery with some guest stars commentary, Chris York, Bill Asher (Liz's son), Bernie Kopell and Richard Dreyfus, and others. The special is narrated by Erin Murphy. One correction. They did change the spelling of Tabitha from the 'a' to an 'i' around the fifth season, i think. It is out here on YT in eight parts. One thing that was mentioned that was new, Liz was willing to do a nineth season, but onky if Bill Asher were fired.

Love Elizabeth Montgomery. I love her independence. She was very private and didn't need the glitzy atmosphere and phony BS of Hollywood. As the video says, she shunned the plastic world of Hollywood and kept her kids away from it. Her daughter is a director but her sons aren't in the industry. Elizabeth succeeded in raising three down to earth people, just like her. From what i've heard, from those who knew her and know her kids, they are as nice as their mother was. Erin Murphy has said that she loved Elizabeth Montgomery very much. She looked up to her, almost like a second mother. She grew up with Liz's kids, visiting her home often. She's still friends with them. I'm not one who follows the Hollywood scene but, once in a while someone in that industry comes along that is special, along with being a kind and caring peron. Elizabeth Victoria Montgomery was such a person. Finally, one might get the impression that Elizabeth may have come to hate BEWITCHED. Yes, she wanted to move on after eight years to take on more dramatic roles. As we know, she went on to do some incredible work. She didn't hate the show at all. Elizabeth looked at it as like going to college. She learned things like production, lighting, special effects, etc. She was especially fond of those who worked on the show, as they were of her. R.I.P. lovely lady.

Alexander Godunov was completely slandered by his enemies. He was not an alcoholic and never hurt Elizabeth Montgomery. Moreover, there was probably no romance between them at all. As an armchair psychologist, you've captured Ms Montgomery's persona well. I grew up watching these shows and revisiting them now I can see how her real life relationships were often mirrored in Betwitched. One aspect I noted was that Elizabeth flinched a lot when Darren #1 got angry, After a couple of abusive marriages, I'm not sure if that was real or just acting. Another observation was that there was frequent kissing. It could be Elizabeth was just very affectionate, but I also wonder if was a subconscious programmed response to her underlying need to get her Father's love & approval?
@old-school-cool

Thank you! I think a lot of actors bring their real life and experiences into their art, intentional or not.
@ijustgottasaythis
3 жыл бұрын
Fascinating. Your observations are accurate about the flinching. She reacted that way so spontaneously it DID appear more instinctive than "acting". Do you think her father worship is the only reason she sought after the "older man"? Could it be she just couldn't "deal with" the immaturity of guys her age? Older men are less prone to stressful head games & heartache for a girl, no? I mean, they know what they like being more experienced, perhaps that attracted her as well? Lucky guys IMO.
@creatorgenerator1998
3 жыл бұрын
@@ijustgottasaythis You are right. Father worship seems a likely factor. Many older men may have more wisdom & stability however Elizabeth's second marriage was to a wreck of a man. We set up trauma tapes in our heads early in life and play them out all our lives if not recognised & resolved. That was likely the tapes playing out for her. She attracted or was attracted to, what is family-er. Foxworth was a younger guy. I haven't looked in depth, but he did/does seem "mature", and level headed, for a celebrity. Perhaps that was still tapes playing but she lucked out and they stayed together for 20yrs. Elizabeth had a privileged upbringing and exposure to some sane people. She appeared a very capable person (like another Lucille Ball?). Somewhat ahead of her time. An extrovert in Bewitched, private in real life. A Hollywood-phobe. Did you notice anything else? (Hint: Pendant).

I don't think she disliked her father. They had their clashes, but ultimately, she loved him. Women often seek love and attention from other men that they feel that they didn't get from their father. Robert Montgomery was known to be a stern taskmaster and was hard to please. She was according to many who knew her, devastated when her father died. Her last husband, Robert Foxworth, confirmed that Elizabeth and her father weren't close in the last years of his life, but she never spoke badly of him publicly.

I find the psychology of people's childhoods very interesting. Her dad sounds like a jerk with some serious issues of his own but I liked him as an actor. I wonder how her relationship with her mother was? That really wasn't mentioned, but we are all psychologically driven by our child hoods. Her family history was a lot like Jane Fonda's. I always loved Elizabeth Montgomery growing up in "Bewitched", and the show in general. They had great characters.

That was a stupid statement that Elizabeth Montgomery became a bigger star than her dad. You can't compare the two, really. Robert Montgomery was a very successful actor with an enormous list of films and very famous co-stars - more than 64 films. Montgomery was teamed with Joan Crawford in six films: Untamed (1929), Our Blushing Brides (1930), Letty Lynton (1932), Forsaking All Others (also w/Clark Gable -1934), No More Ladies (1935), and The Last of Mrs. Cheyney (1937). He was president of SAG twice. Elizabeth Montgomery became more famous during Bewitched because it was another era - her prime. His prime was in the 30's and 40's and 50's. Can't compare their careers like that.

The Salem Village Massacre of 1692 was the beginning of the end of the witch hunts, the persecution of the ancient religion of Witchcraft span almost 900 years and across much of the planet involving the mass murder of 9 million men women and children. That said Elizabeth Montgomery did a little bit of research when she was offered the role of Samantha and discovered that Witchcraft was an actual religion in fact being the oldest religion in the world in the Indigenous religion of Western Europe. Miss Montgomery a Southern Baptist was always very kind to us Witches whenever she met us and as a practicing Witch i will always love her for that. Rest in peace dear lady. 💕

Total enjoyment! Thinking I knew so much about Miss Montgomery already it is always great To Learn Something New each! I remember the rape movie being a scandal at that time(something about the word Panties?) I may be mixing it with another, but my Fav was and still is "Lizzie Borden"!! Thank you for your time & effort!

Amazing she came from a conservative , snob background and winds up in a t.v. show that advocates for acceptance of everyone. She even wound up being very supportive of Dick Sargent after he came out and was a Grand Marshall in the Pride parade in California

Elizabeth didn't costar with Elvis on Kid Galahad. She was only on set at times because her husband Gig was in the movie. Her first husband Frederick Gallatin Cammann was not a decade older than her, just four years.

Alexander Godunov was completely slandered by his enemies. He was not an alcoholic and never hurt Elizabeth Montgomery. Moreover, there was probably no romance between them at all. This gossip was started up by journalist Pilato, but he did not include anything about Alexander in his book about Elizabeth. Pilato was told lies by Alexander's enemies. Alexander was a kind and decent person.

Moreover, I'm not sure if Elizabeth and Alexander knew each other at all. I have not found a single joint photograph, not a single person who would mention this affair or their acquaintance. Alexander had the other mistresses.

She hated I Dream of Jeanie and specifically Sidney Sheldon. As a fan of both shows I can't really blame her. Sidney blatantly copied most of their plots and even went out of his way to hire IDOJ actors. Especially Paul Lynne.
