gotta consider myself really lucky to not have found this song before. It's an awesome feeling when you still have yet to discover new Elliott songs. ;)

The opening notes have always reminded me of the James Bond theme music. I know Elliott loved the Beatles, and McCartney did the opening song for one of the movies, so maybe this is Elliotts take on it. The title fits.

@@mymayapapaya You're right. I just think he could have been an amazing film score composer given his natural talent for arrangements. The song 'Bye' is another great example of that.

I've always thought of his catalogue as the collection of "The Long Lost 5th Beatles songs"... The guitar, piano, arrangement, and voice (not so much the lyrics, but the voice) are all HUGE tips of the hat toward Harrison, Lennon and to some extent McCartney.

Elliott Smith Is dead. He is a victim of his own hand, his on again off again girlfriend, or the LAPD. Take your pick. You must see past your love of his music and see him as a person, a human being that you might meet. A friend of a friend. Someone, perhaps, that you might not even like if you got to know. I know that if I dreamed perfect music like he did a sad but all too human thought would buzz in the back of my mind at all times: " Does this person really like me, or do they just like my music? Do they even care about who I really am, or are they just happy to be seen with me? If I were a bum on the street, a broke junkie, would this person give me a chance? Am I all alone? Is it even possible for me to have a genuine friend now that my music has brought me fame and money? Fuck...Where is my Xanex?" I have tried to see past Elliott Smith the Famous Musician and I have tried to see past the 'Elliott Smith that guy who is writing down my thoughts in 1997 before I even have them why wont he stay out of my head?' and I have endeavored to see him as someone I might meet. I am sad ( but strangely encouraged and relieved ) that I have found aspects of his personality that I find....irksome. I get the feeling he is like me. He is like others that I have met and disliked for lying and being judgemental. On the surface he seems to be a really nice guy, but like all humans, he lies. I've caught him in a couple from watching interviews with radically conflicting answers to the same questions. He judges. He is quick to write people off because of differing opinions on ultimately trivial mattes. Finding out the ugly aspects of someone you admire can humanize that person and give you a stronger understanding of who they are...and who you are as well. But..yeah...Elliott Smith is Dead.

he was flawed as we all are... just listen to 'everybody cares, everybody understands" he dropped friends for trying to help him get off drugs and alcohol, he is not truly dead though imo if he is still loved then he lives
