Elly is also only 5 strikeouts away from breaking Drew Stubbs all time Reds season record for k's for a season. History in the making!

Just like Babe Ruth did in his 1st year as a Yankee. He went on to break his own 'Yankee strike outs in a season' 6 times, including his 60 HR season. Reggie Jackson set the A's strike outs in a season record 4 times (he was their greatest hitter in those seasons). Elly leads the Reds in HRs. So GET BENT!

Also...Mickey Mantle has the most career Yankee strikeouts with 2,401. Mike Schmidt (ever heard of Him?) had 2,404 career K's! Reggie Jackson is the all time strikeout king at 2,597. He also hit a few HRs...563 of 'em!

Baseball is strange game. A player who leads the league in strikeouts and errors was at one point garnering serious MVP votes. And yes, he still had the strikeouts and errors title at the time. lol. He is fun to watch when he’s on a good streak though.

Alex, you are 100% correct. Sure, I opine he makes the fielding play of the month, contributes to winning one game a month - maybe 2 & steals 15 bases in a month. However, because he is 22, fast out of batters box, makes an unbelievable play, but then what. His mental errors far exceed his embarrassing league leading fielding errors, he strikes out over 200 times leaving numerous runners in scoring position that kills a productive inning or hot dog's stretching a single into an out at second base. He finds ways to screw-up. He will set a Reds records with most a player doesn't want. He's extremely talented, but plays out of control, costing the Reds far more losses than wins in a season. The Reds are so desperate that they constantly praise a man totally out of control, constantly make excuses when he finds ways to be a team liability. He has played well over 200 major league games and still hasn't learned how not to cost his team wins. I say trade him while he has excellent value. Then maybe the Reds could contend for a championship. It won't happen with DeLaCruz in the lineup over a 162 game stretch. He is extremely fun to watch, but way too frequently hurts the team trying to make something out of nothing. Yes, I think his heart is in the right place, but his brain dead decision making is deplorable. Give me an above average healthy shortstop that can field, hit .280, strike outs less than 80 times a season, steals 20 bases, etc and you will have a winner. These commentators constantly give praise when, overall, it is not due. In all seriousness, I blame the manager as much as I do him. Proof is in the won vs loss record. All the excuses have worn their welcome out. I don't believe Eric Davis or Barry Larkin as a manager would tolerate his liabilities. I could be wrong.

Please do not use pre-1898 stolen base totals for a team record for steals. Prior to 1898, if you advanced from first to third or second to home on a single, you got a stolen base, as well as first to home on a double. You got two stolen bases for going from first to home on a single prior to 1898 as well.
