Another great video. I like that you do the count 50 at a time so we know the progress. That's just a crazy looking big foldong knife .

I’m extremely happy you tested a microtech with elmax because I bought an ultratech with elmax and I didn’t like the steel until I found out it was an amazingly good steel

If you had the exact same knife with best HT for each one and both sharpened to the same degree, but one was elmax and one was m390... in your opinion, which would be the better knife?
@MFD00MTR33
5 жыл бұрын
M390 at 64-65hrc(Cultrotech knives or few custom makers) would hold it's edge longer than Elmax in abrasive cutting like rope or cardboard. Elmax is a bit tougher and with a great heat treat (63-64hrc like Cultrotech runs) is no slouch. All things being equal Elmax gives up 15-20% tops to m390 in wear resistance. Edge angle, edge finish, micro bevel, geometry can have a greater effect than that. Microtech does a great heat treat for production knives, best s35vn and s30v I've tried(Fantoni has great heat treat but rather thick edges unlike MT) and their M390 and Elmax have been great too.

Sharpmaker or lanskey angled sharpener? All I want is the sharpest edge. Newest steel I'm getting is 110 v or maxamet in a para3. Or m390 but it'll never come to be
@yeaman992

.308or5.56? A good diamond whetstone will always give the best edge (plus stopping on diamond compound or lapping films). I'd definitely get S110v, for many reasons, one being that all of the Maxamet Paramilitary 2s are horribly misground. Big sloping sides missing.
@rodrigoteresa7944

Between those two I'd go Lansky. Sharpmaker is only really for touching up/ maintaining edges. If you were reprofiling you'd be at it for a long time.

Bento Box has Para 3 M390 for sale now. You can get the 110v anywhere. Unfortunately the Maxamet Para 3 may not be. According to Sal they're still evaluating the situation to get the Para 3 Maxamet made.

its funny, i dont really care for elmax... from my experience it was a little lame. i didnt use it much and it was on a microtech. it lost its super sharp edge pretty fast. i put it away because i didnt want to sharpen my $330 knife. also the very point pf the tip broke off and it got a ton of tiny rust spots is a case that i keep all my knives. s30v and 154 cm were right next to it and they were fine. i swear i took good care of it. just not the steel for me.

What is the reason for putting a 25 degree micro convex on a 20 degree knife? I'm still trying to learn as much as I can about sharpening.
