You are talking about two different things. #1)..the technical aspect of how to capture the sound of the cellos (and violin) properly (mics, etc) and #2 )..the "overall sound" of the band, or what some people refer to as the "gelling" of the band itself. I don't feel the boys were in effect, trying to 'hush' the cellist when he spoke his mind. He wasn't speaking of the second issue #2) - the band 'gelling', or their sound maturing, only the first...Regarding the first aspect, the cellist simply replied regarding the technical aspect of how the sound had been captured / recorded on the cellos for live performance. It was tricky back then...when (the Move / ELO) started (71 to 72) sound tech for amplified strings was crap. Apparantly, it was so bad (the technology of the time didn't properly support amplified orchestral instruments such as violin or cello) that (cellist / instrumentalist/vocalist) Roy Wood walked from the band (well, at least ONE of the things that broke the camels back). I'm sure even Jeff Lynne appreciated the quick advances in technology that occured in the previous year (bridge transducers for the strings) that the cellist spoke of. I don't feel he was irritated, or bored. It was probably a frustration during live shows, thank god the technology started arriving right around the time of this interview. Later on, after the interview, the band might have jeered the cellist for being a bit stiff / music nerdy during this interview, but they probably toasted over a few pints later on anyway... ;)

However, when Bob Moog got back in the synth business about 18 -20 years ago (with the Minimoog Voyager), people discovered that he pronounces his last name with a long o (Moog rhymes with Vogue).so the official pronunciation has changed to the long o.. However,, Bob's father pronounced his last name Moog as in Moo Cow. With all things considered, either pronounciation works!
