Carl Palmer and Ian Paice, my two favorite drummers. Saw Ian in 2017 with DP, best concert i've been to, couldn't take my eyes off Ian for a second. But Carl's argument about the traditional grip, gotta go with that one.

One of the most talented technical drummers to ever pick up a set of sticks. Those that know him from Asia should listen to his ELP work. A prodigy I would say and interesting that it cuts to Ian Paice as Paice and Palmer were similar in style the way they valued rudiments compared to a drummer like John Bonham who was not one of those Buddy Rich type drummers unlike Paice and Palmer.

Although Palmer may have the edge on pure blinding speed, his solos are cold and mechanical, lacking the warm, funky soulfulness of Paice's "The Mule". His super clean singles, doubles, and triplets are nothing to sneeze at.

thats interesting to hear him describe what experienced performers do without thinking. --Singers lag fraction of second, while drummers (and bass) anticipate the beat. Dig the paradiddles at end. I actually didnt think he could do that so well! lol

Ok Paice fan. that's ok. Yes I know Paice is capable of great chops. But the fact remains, Carl is better. At Age 19 he already mastered all styles of music. And is one of the greatest classicly trained percusionist of all time. Like I said Buddy Rich was in awe of Palmer that should say something.

This is something John Bonham never ever thought to do. Seemed like all he wanted to play was triplets on the snare, toms and kick for three hours straight.

Two different styles of drummer. Ian is more a traditional rock drummer, but is still good, Carl is more technical and combines a lot of different styles in he's playing, but for me Carl is the best and my second favourite drummer was the great Joe Morello, check out blues for Joe on here.

It’s all different techniques, styles and feels. It’s like trying to claim one flavor of ice cream is superior to the other, it really is pointless. Ian Paice is a fantastic musician and composer and when he performs he’s a wonderful.
