Elsist - electric safety city car
Built by an AG Junger Techniker 1974 -1979 in the GDR
To be thinking about pedestrian safety and environmental protection as early as 1974 is something special.
The technical data of the Elsist are comparable to those of the Opel E-Rock.
Two 40 volt motors, each with 2.5kW front-wheel drive without differential and manual gearbox
Three gears forward and one gear backward
150 Ah batteries in the rear that could be charged in 10 hours at a household socket
The Elsist was not supposed to be an electric car at all, initially a sports car with a 700cc mid-engine and polyester body was planned, but that failed on
approval process. Approval for the construction of a vehicle with an electric drive was only granted with the involvement of the student working group. So the inventor of the Elsist Neubert.
As a condition, a one-off production was determined, which should have a model building character. The political decision to build the vehicle lay in Moscow, not in the GDR Ministry of Transport (Berlin).
For this video I went to Massen near Finsterwalde to meet the mayor Lutz Modrow and the local chronicler Mr. Kauer.
