THIS BLOWS ME AWAY.....JUST HEARING THE PERFECTION OF LYRICS, MUSIC, VOICE...I CAN LISTEN FOREVER

in 1971 I was 15 and my boyfriend took me to Convention Hall in Asbury Park to see Elton John. He was just starting to be played on WNEW FM in NY, and 'Madman Across the Water' was the LP my boyfriend played in his attic bedroom nonstop. The beginning of this amazing talent BEFORE the crazy outfits started but we KNEW this was something wonderful. The era of one-man troubadour acts was had begun with Dylan (Zimmerman), Arlo Guthrie, Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot, Dan Fogelburg, Kenny Loggins, a long list that somehow co-existed with up and coming metal and glitter bands. It was a nascent big-bang of musical flame lit by the Beatles but now all nostalgia. Elton truly one of the last ones 'still standing'.

great story, I was only 11 years old living in NYC (later moved to Monmouth County) I do remember this being on NYC radio stations....I think. Very long time ago. You are very lucky to get to see him a small venue back in 1971. I never got to Elton John at all. We did see the Rolling Stones in 1981 in the Meadowlands it was a large venue though. That was my first big concert.

So honored to attend the Citizenship ceremony for Jesus Moses Cortez this morning with my children. Meeting him among the other school kids so many years ago when I volunteered at their grade school was truly a blessing to our family. We are so happy for him. Proud to know him. This was filmed, aired in the spring of 1970. It had the sound of diversity and immigration, a courage to embrace a new beginning. I was 9 years old and thought of my grandparents as they had that same brave spirit and integrity to build a dream. Holy Moses I have been removed I have seen the specter he has been here too Distant cousin from down the line Brand of people who ain't my kind Holy Moses I have been removed Holy Moses I have been deceived Now the wind has changed direction and I'll have to leave Won't you please excuse my frankness but it's not my cup of tea Holy Moses I have been deceived I'm going back to the border Where my affairs, my affairs ain't abused I can't take any more bad water I've been poisoned from my head down to my shoes Holy Moses I have been deceived Holy Moses let us live in peace Let us strive to find a way to make all hatred cease There's a man over there what's his color I don't care He's my brother let us live in peace He's my brother let us live in peace He's my brother let us live in peace

To hear this song is to marvel at the voice that EJ had. It's like a laser beam -- strong, emotive, amazing range. Not just that he sings well, his voice is so unique, so expressive. To hear the first words of this piece, even if unfamiliar with it, is to know it's Elton John. It's sad his pipes have given out the way they now have; and that the apparently self-effacing, pleasant young guy in this clip has become such an insufferable boor. Early EJ could not be bested musically.

Might want to read Caleb’s book it’s very good. The verse” let us strive to find a way, to make all hatred cease, there’s a man over there, what’s his color I don’t care, he’s my brother” was Elton’s own words.

i dont understand why people need to have stupid self righteous arguments on a music video. either you like the music which is why you came to the video, or you dont which is why you leave it alone to the people who do like it. but instead we have people trying to impose their beliefs because they feel like telling someone they are wrong, to make them feel like their opinion means something. nobody gives a shit about your beliefs, thats why they are YOUR beliefs, keep it to yourself

Judge yourself After all this is one of Elton John's best songs
