Elton played the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago on the 25th of November 1970, their only Illinois show that year that's on setlist.fm. So this is likely to have been recorded that day.

when he talked about his opinion on drugs made me sad because he would end up doing hard drugs like cocaine and just about all of them for about 15 years because mostly of his manager john reid.

I know, but I'm sure he never thought for one second that drug addiction would happen to him. Thank goodness he has been clean and sober since 1990.

Yeah, but you can only blame John Reid for so much. Being in the business, IMO he would have come across drugs eventually. He said in other interviews that knew people around him (band members) that were using even if he wasn't. In the end it comes down making a choice. Reid couldn't have been as bad as all that as EJ kept him around for nearly 30 years.

Hope your talking about speaking voice not singing Michael respectably probably had the most unique and strong while soft voice when he sang Freddie is great but I Love Elton John but his voice is on what list a greater vocalist then Mike nah no way

Supposed Elton and Mike never did a duet and Freddie and Mike did. Why? It's simply a true story Elton tried to duet with Mike but said his voice sounded "like a barking dog next to this, think so? His voice can't outrun me so clearly I won't subject to him ending my career he's fckin not human guys did ya hear that my God" And truthfully as much as I Love Eltons music gotta admit Truth that his voice is extraordinarily ordinary next to Michael, and if you just listen to Elton alone then he sounds good again, but I agree with Elton himself. He really couldn't sing on a album with Mike it would be so sad

Who is the interviewer? What show was this? I'm from the Chicago area and the voice sounds familiar--John Drummond? Elton was 23 years old at the time of this interview! Just think about how self-possessed he is--amazing!

I am old but even when younger I have appreciated archives of different types. This is a great one. The stud circle interviews from WFMT for decades is another great archive. And there are so many. Radio TV movies scholarly work speeches. and while I think short clips can be very powerful and entertaining and educational, it's not the same thing as a longer format. but the first thing I thought of when listening was that thanks to his own fortitude and whatever help he received, he didn't succumb to fame, which is known to destroy lives up and until the point of death sometimes. as far as I'm concerned he can wear whatever clothing he wants whatever hairpieces he wants and play whatever music he wants. if he has a degree of contentment and doesn't lapse into killer addictions, I feel very happy for him. Island girl and crocodile rock.

I saw an interview he did with Barbara Walters and he talked about how much alcohol he would consume in one day. He is very, very fortunate to be alive today. Love Elton John.
