The guitars and keyboards hit the right chords which was magic to my ears. When Elton John sang Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, he sang it with such feeling like he was the girl with kaleidoscope eyes. It's like he was singing on a big hill and his voice painted the scenery.

I remember watching this on the Cher show way back when. I was 15 years old and a huge Elton John Fan. My dad walked out of the living room, I guess Elton was too strange for a farmer in Indiana at the time....

Here, within this most "historical" time in Pop Music History, a much younger, vibrantly beautiful, and impressionable *Cher* courted the "song promotion of a Legendary 'Caribou Ranch' recording," but do believe me when I say: "This particular song recording needed no promotional introduction, or sales pitch" from the studio recording we knew from radio. And so it came to pass, that by the time the dust settled at the western, most scenic town of "Caribou Ranch, Colorado," history was made, and Elton John had become: *The Greatest Pop Musician In World History!* Although a many have tried to compete, there can be "no turning back" today.

'He and Taupin' together, once failed to land a single record deal in England - few in Britain were impressed - but soon thereafter, *Cher* and *all of America* would hear him, and become well-acquainted with him. America had discovered the *Greatest Pop Star* that would ever live on planet earth.

This song was never a part of the Captain Fantastic album. It was released as a 7" single. Here in Brazil, side b to this single was 'Cold Highway', a song I also love.

I think Elton's version stands up better on it's own then the Beatles' version did due to it's fact it is sort of included in a melody of sorts on the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" compared to Elton's version of it being arranged by him separately on "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Cowboy" album. Although don't forget one-half of The Beatles do appear on the Elton's recorded version (both John Lennon and George Harrison, as both back-up singers and guitar players).

Only he, had an ear for perfection, because only "he" was perfect among us! He took Lennon's wrecked version, and covered it to historical Gold! Even Cher herself, was brought to tears - Perhaps the most historical music moment ever to be aired Live, on American television!
@buffalobraves9

While I think Elton's version is better to call the Beatles version "wrecked" is ridiculous. It's a masterpiece in itself. Part of the reason Elton's version was so good was because it included the vocal harmonies and guitar of John Lennon himself.
