The 68 Comeback was something else, you can see how much Elvis enjoyed doing it and it just put a stamp on how talented he really was. I believe that guitar is one of the most valuable guitars in the world if not thee most valuable.

There's a 'sit- down' segment of this show where he's plugged in, and playing with only a couple other guys, and, YEAH, he does actually play good! He may have not been a lead guitarist, like James Burton, but yes, he DID play good! This segment was for him to walk around and interact with the audience, so it wasn't plugged in.

He could have been an excellent guitar player if he would have dedicated to it. I guess he just didn’t need it to be successful

He wasn't a great guitar player, even he admits that but he certainly wasn't bad. He could play rhythm and blues pretty good, but it'll never be known for his guitar playing. In my opinion, his instrument was his vocals.

Scotty moore and James Burton carried Elvis his whole career. The kings guitar was neither plugged in or miked.
@mrsongman
20 күн бұрын
Not at all. He's plugged in here but just playing basic rhythm guitar. He isn't the one playing lead here but he isn't pretending to be either. He never once pretended he was doing Scotty or James' parts. To the point it was a running gag that he would look down at his guitar doing nothing and turning it up and down etc. Elvis's rhythm guitar is a key part of the sun sessions, he also played some guitar on a few early sixties records. This 1968 special we're watching has a whole segment of him playing rhythm on Scotty's electric. He plays the electric on some live recordings from 69-70. He really gave poor Scotty's guitar a thrashing on this show and on live records you can often identify that he's on the electric guitar because it's a bit out of tune. He wasn't the best guitar player by any stretch of the imagination but he never made out that he was.
