The next installment of my potted history of the life and career of Elvis Presley - an Elvis biography. Where possible I've included video I've taken in and around Memphis relating to the period, taken during our 2017 and 2019 trips. Elvis 1975 was a year of a few highs but a lot of lows. Elvis' January Las Vegas engagement was postponed and Elvis was admitted to Baptist Memorial Hospital - the first of 2 hospital admissions of Elvis in this year. The rescheduled Elvis Las Vegas engagement in March appeared to show Elvis benefitted from the rest as Elvis was in good spirits and good form. Also, the last time Elvis recorded in a recording studio was in March, at RCA Recording Studios on Sunset Boulevard. Elvis also bought planes this year, and also leased planes. Elvis bought the 2 planes on display at Graceland, the Lockheed Jetstar (Hound Dog II) piloted by Milo High, and the Lisa Marie (Hound Dog I). On tour Elvis played the Von Braun in Huntsville and again Elvis had a concert at Mid-South Coliseum in Elvis's hometown Memphis. Elvis's spending wasn't limited to planes however, and on one day in July Elvis would visit the Madison Cadillac showroom on Union Ave in Memphis. Elvis bought 14 Cadillacs. Also Elvis bought a Cadillac for a stranger - Minnie Person who just happened to be admiring the Cadillacs through the showroom window. Elvis gave the stranger keys to a brand new Cadillac. The summer Elvis Vegas season was cut short as Elvis was ill. Elvis was in hospital for several days. His recuperation involved film showings at another of Elvis' favourite theatres, the Crosstown. Elvis bought several trikes at Super Cycle in Memphis. Toward the end of the year the converted Convair 880 called Lisa Marie was finally ready and Elvis flew to Vegas for the dates to make up for the August cancellations. Elvis New Year's Eve concert was a record-breaking concert at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.
