Elvis was in my uncle's Army unit. He was a grizzly, tough master sergeant who had to ask Elvis to pose with him in a photo for his 2 teenage daughters. He hated to bring himself to ask a lowly Private for a favor but can you imagine him coming home empty handed to 2 adolescent girls. That was probably the only thing he was ever scared of.

Great story. Good on your uncle. I read 2 detailed accounts from two of Elvis's superior officers, one of them a colonel, both of them said that when Elvis was enlisted and they knew he would be sent to their unit, they expected a cocky, arrogant Superstar to show up and be difficult to deal with. But they both said they were happy to end up being wrong in their assumptions. Elvis was a class act, very humble, never complained and was a hard worker earning the respect of just about everyone that served with him. Have heard others that served with Elvis pretty much say the same thing. It was good to learn these things. I have to respect Elvis for his integrity.

I’m a big Elvis fan!!! I’ve been to Graceland 11 times since the first week it opened in. 1982. I have a pic of me and my sister sitting in the pink Jeep he drove in movie Blue Hawaii. My moms best friend got a scarf and a kiss from him when he came to Alabama. One of my friends had his picture made shaking his hand on the train when he came through Decatur, Alabama. I had the privilege of meeting Charlie Hodge who told me so many Elvis stories as well as giving me a ride in the green Cadillac he has that belonged to Elvis. It was one of several cadillacs that he got into after getting off stage in the 70s. I got to go to his house twice and spend the day with him and his mother before she passed away! Charlie is buried in my hometown. I felt like I got a feel of Elvis life from Charlie although I would’ve given anything to meet him! He said Elvis would’ve loved you!! Thanks for this video as I never get tired of looking at Graceland!

True trivia: The first time Elvis wore the complete gold lame' Nudie suit for a live performance was on March 28 1957, at The Chicago Amphitheater. There are pics online of him onstage. He only wore it for a couple of shows, afterwards mostly swapping out the trousers for black tux pants. I attended several concerts at the Chicago Amp (now long gone). It was actually designed and built for exhibiting and selling livestock (yes, you read right!). It was also used for national auto shows and indoor drag racing events(!). The place was cavernous inside. For decades it was the indoor venue where everyone from Sinatra to The Beatles to Led Zeppelin would play (during their peak), because nowhere else in Chicago had the seats needed. Needless to say, the acoustics were horrible for concerts of any kind.
