I will always remember the day Elvis died, I was 5 and had no idea who he was ... I remember my grandmother telling me Lisa ,go tell grandpa Elvis died and I went to tell him ,he was in the bathroom,so I yelled through the door, "grandpa, grandma said to tell u Elvis died",he didn't say anything but all of a sudden I heard him crying and I thought, this Elvis must be his friend because I never saw or heard my grandpa cry before....Elvis wasn't his friend but my grandfather just loved Elvis like so many other people,he is sadly missed..

Not everybody was an Elvis fan. He was considered a "has been" at this point in his career. A nostalgia act. The Beatles had replaced him at the top of the heap, and even they had receded. @@josephhewes3923 You're kidding right? Elvis was always at the top of his game. From the great 50s, to the magical 68 special, to the legendary 1970 year which many consider to be his best year ever with so many hits, to the 1973 Worldwide concert which was seen by over 1 billion people around the globe (the beatles at this point in time were technically finished 3 years prior). He is called the king of music for a reason, know your facts before writing nonsense. Everyone knows he was extremely sick his last year on earth but he always had his unparalleled voice. Even after his death in 1977, his single way down reached number one in the charts. Anyway, if you intend to compare a solo singer with another, compare him to another solo singer, not to a whole band.

I think he is doing the news the way he is supposed to do the news. It's better than what CBS did the day Elvis died. Cronkite was on vacation so Roger Mudd was filling in so I guess the producer was in charge of the news of the day and what the lead story would be that evening. It wasn't Elvis's death and CBS paid for it and it changed how the networks would go forward with how pop culture and celebrity is covered inthe news. CBS had to scramble to get a special tribute to Elvis that night and it was a big story for awhile. They were surprised by the reaction to Elvis's death and that networks ratings were very good for a while. Cronkite was #1 so it was big.

Very tragic news. I just finished his latest movie from this summer and enjoyed it very much. Guess there isn't gonna be a sequel now...😭
