I met Elvis in person when I was 9 years old. I was taking kempo Karate under Ed Parker in the 70's. It was on a Saturday mid afternoon when bunch of guys walked in with Ed Parker and Elvis. I didn't know who he was. My dad looked at me and said Elvis. I remember jet black hair and the gold glasses. Stayed about an hour. I saw Aloha from Hawaii concert and said, hey there's that guy. Aloha from Hawaii... 1973... he never again looked or sounded as good. Not to say he ever sounded bad... really bad that is... but you could see his health deteriorate in his later shows. I had this on 8 track and actually wore that sucker out! I grew up on Elvis and remember so well the day he died, even though I was only 6 at the time. My aunt locked herself in her room for two days, playing all his records over and over and just crying until she couldn't cry anymore.

I watched this again and came to this conclusion. All you respected rappers, r&b, pop artists, just need to look back to this concert Aloha in Hawaii and be students of the most powerful singer/artist/performer/ gentleman/giver/giving it all up for his fans world wide. Artists in this new generation will never come close to this untrained, raw, God given talent. Oh yes, I’ve seen all the show gimmicks ya’ll use to enhance or distract from your lack of showmanship, talent or charisma. Elvis didn’t need any of that. He was the main attraction and was confident in his deliverance of what was in his heart and soul. If you came away from viewing Elvis Aloha from Hawaii without any emotion, goose bumps, and awe, you were probably texting or in the kitchen looking for junk food. Elvis did everyone in the concert music business a huge favor by being genuine, honest, and professional showing you how it is done. Oh, and there’s one more thing......the most handsome man ever to grace the stage. He was an Adonis.

What I like about Elvis is that he sang like he absolutely meant every word in the lyric. This is something few singers are able to convey to their audiences. The fact that Elvis didn't write his own songs doesn't really matter. What matters is how he communicated to his audience, and still does today through his recordings.
