@Ziegeri
3 жыл бұрын
The leveling is often the fun part in many mmos, the end game always becomes boring treadmill of raids, dungeons etc. at some point. Also whenever I get a new class at max level that I've never played, I just get overwhelmed by the abilities and can't even bother to learn it. Way better to learn it while you level up and then you have general idea how the class works. Besides, if people just want to start at endgame, might as well give the best gear too or not have gear at all - or just play games like CS, LoL etc. that you can just sit in and sit out.

I waited in the beginning for "Elyon" because this game was supposed to be a bit different from the games of this genre. Such a distinction was supposed to be great sky-stamping fights, huge flying ships, etc. but they decided to give it up and already then I knew that I had nothing to look for in this game. Your video confirmed my assumptions. Because of this, this game does not stand out, an ordinary MMORPG where you run, kill monsters, and then you forget about it because it starts to bore you terribly. Despite what "Riders Of Icarus" was like, I spent many hours in it for the very concept of the game, which was based on mounts, just because this idea was at least a bit new. Contrary to appearances, not only Asian games are like that, but most of the MMORPG genre and it is very difficult to find something that stands out a bit. I'll probably stay with Black Desert Online and wait for something interesting to come up. As for Elyon, if it is finally available to everyone, I will probably try to play because I would prefer to find out for myself what the game really is like, I just don't have too much hope for it.

The only time I really enjoyed leveling was in vanilla wow. Before you knew what end game really was. And it took you a month to get to max. If the purpose of leveling is just gating your character before end game, I hate it. There needs to be milestones along the way. Things you can work towards that benefit you even later on. That and the world needs to be challenging at certain points, so that you have to group up and expetoence the actual mmo part of the mmorpg.
@BangsarRia
3 жыл бұрын
In a good MMORPG the leveling is a completely different experience from the end game and just as much fun. Some players prefer playing low-level characters and will play through the content multiple times with different characters. But most are apparently eager to get to the end game, so a shortcut - especially after the first play through - is good balance.

imo leveling in mmos isnt the problem, its how these games approach the leveling which causes problems. These games fail to make levels feel important or rewarding. Ten hours of leveling in WoW classic is like ten times more fulfilling than 10 hours in BDO. When a game only offers level cap content the leveling feels forced and unrewarding. When a game actually offers meaningful and challenging content along the way players forget level cap exists and enjoy the journey.

You know what would really make you forget that there's a level cap and enjoy the journey? Not having levels. WoW has a completely vertical gear progression anyways, so what is the actual point of having levels? It only served to gate endgame in Vanilla, and afterwards all it did was make world content that you outlevelled completely irrelevant. You have to regularly meet gearchecks to be able to play content in the game anyways. Seriously, what is the point? Also, taking a cheese grater to the cock is more fulfilling than 10 hours of BDO unless you have $600+ to immediately dump into it.
@IntenseSplash
3 жыл бұрын
@@nickjklol You have some good points but if you get rid of levels the gear just acts as a substitute, not called the same but have the same function. Levels also serve as a progression bar that cannot go down. Your item score can go up or down depending on what content you are clearing but your level remains constant. And without levels how would you suggest new skills be acquired? Want them all at character creation, that gets rid of progression. Would you want skills to be linked to your item score? So your skill tree would be locked behind rng? No thanks. Experience will always be earned giving the player some sense of progression even if they aren't getting new gear.

Respect your opinion about an MMO with no leveling, skip to endgame.. But man I disagree so hard. Leveling is what I enjoy most in RPGs, especially MMORPGs. That's what I search for in MMOs, an incredible journey.

Man I hate the idea of "just delete the leveling". Leveling only sucks because developers have the wrong idea about what leveling should be. These games don't always have to be just about end game. That's part of why I have such fond memories of vanilla WoW (not classic, old vanilla before all the patches that nerfed everything) and old school EQ. The journey to max level was significant and dangerous. You couldn't just face-tank 10 mobs while AoEing it all down. That's not fun or challenging, that's just mindless repetitive grinding. Bring me the dangerous worlds that require a group of competent and communicative individuals to succeed. The obsession with action combat in MMOs is watering down the reasons I came to love MMOs in the first place: the worlds and the communities within them.

There are people out there who think mmorpg progression is fun. Its why we play. So called "end game" isn't the point to me. I enjoy the journey, yes including the things that feel monotonous to you. When I get to then end, I'm likely to make a new character of another class and go again. It's true that not all progressions are good. But the problem isn't "leveling" itself. Leveling is the heart of mmorpgs. Its why I play. Yeah I want it done well, sure. But I still want it.

Re: leveling - it's the part I enjoy the most in all the MMOs and (a)RPGs I've played. Once I hit cap, I quickly lose interest and reroll. Seeing builds change, getting new options and learning the interactions - that's where the fun is for me, and I suppose a few others as well.

Honestly Id prefer leveling to be something like Genshin does it. Have an overall Adventure Rank that determines the accessibility to some content (so absolutely new players for example can't enter end-game places to get boosted), but overall leveling your character should just be for the bling. Clearing content would be just to get you specific items or points to allocate skills. This also means that 90% of players can just play together if they are atlest soft-capped on adventure rank just like in genshin, which is honestly not hard to do. It's harder for me to see someone who is below this requrement than those who are the top 10% of the playerbase. While this system is not perfect, it should be a good starting point. Reinventing this into something that fits an MMORPG rather than a more single player focused RPG could be the solution to leveling being boring and 3/4 of the content becoming obsolete as soon as you outlevel it.

SWTOR is the only MMO where leveling is done right, from my perspective. Full story-driven content from start to finish, with dungeons and heroic missions for plenty of group content on the way up to max. Of course, SWTOR has plenty of other issues, but leveling is the best of any MMO I've ever played. If more MMO's took that approach to leveling, I'd be making alts every day.

SWG was my fave MMO. I have yet to experience the same thrill kicking ass as a Rebel TKM/MD in a bloody PvP battle of hundreds, only to have 2 IMP Sith cut us to ribbons. The solo grouping on Dath, NS stronghold, Death Watch Bunker... Player cities, the insane crafting, harvesting, and fields of factories. Hell, the JTL expansion with POB ships was bloody amazing. Buggy as hell, imbalanced as shit, but the most fun I've had in an MMO. Mastered everything but Bio and Ranger. Once elected mayor, things just got better.

Your video on runescape 3 return video encouraged me to return to runescape and in turn I encouraged my older sibling who had ironically been thinking about returning too.. I was looking for a solid mmo to play with a feeling I havent had in a long time RS3 contains none of the aspects I no longer liked about the og game while still giving me the nostalgic feeling I needed while also giving me the feeling I was playing a new game! Archeology is interesting although i'd argue they need a shifting station at all the sites, mining and smithing has reverse roles with the smithing becoming more manual and the the mining becoming more automatic! My sibling bought me membership like always but the difference time is I didn't feel overloaded and uncertain about all the extra skills I suddenly had access to which in the past made me feel overwhelmed and apathetic and caused me to leave the game sadly me and my sibling don't have access to our original accounts from 2006 but considering how much the game has changed as I havent been on my current account for 579 days until I started playing the other day like you said goldsellers are completely gone and I managed to but a bond i got it for £3.99 in the steam store and sold it in-game in GE for a sweet 25m gold This means that things like summoning, magic, construction, inventing and other sink skills no longer are as much an issue and no longer seem like an impossible task! Both me and my sibling are currently preparing ourselves for the Family Crest quest I have chosen the enchant path for magic and am enjoying the system I don't feel like working on other skills has to take me away from mining and smithing so much now like it used to which is my joy in most games, I am currently making an incredible stock of games necklaces and Amulets of defence so expect an influx at the GE soon I stream on a different YT account and archive the vids and when January comes I am going back to that which is mainly marvel based games including the infamous >marvel's avengers< But thankyou Peon you got me back into a game I never considered as one to go back to priorly assuming it hadn't changed much in nearly 2yrs Runescape goes back to my roots as the 2 first mmorpg games I played was Shaiya and RuneSape long before GE existed or before the trade limit, or before that weird short time the devs messed with wildy! It's what got me onto the genre in the first place and it's mainly mmorpgs I played on pc since! hard to believe i'd keep coming back to a game I played 14 yrs ago that the gem of 2020 for me would be Runescape 3 sadly the loss was more for my sibling they still had their og account for a good time and even maxed out some skills but thanks to exp lamps and other stuff on they're new account they're bouncing back which also for strange reason gave most of her exp to the archaeology skill so now she's lv30+ and she started a few days ago, plus they got alot more experience with the game than I ever did! This isn't my og account I never got that far on RS anyways so it wasn't a loss account Originally my older sibling was considering OSRS but then she realised she'd gotten so used to the changes over the years she couldn't stand going back... no drop down menu's and having to manually click every single thing (apparently) so she decided to move on and join me in the present OSRS was good for what it was back then and I have fond memories but the experience is not the same in this day and age and it does meet exactly what my memories tell me it was like... don't get me wrong its fine to pass the time on mobile but for pc I think RS3 is a better fit! Also due to the automation of my main skill mining I can do it while either playing minecraft or watching youtuber or netflix... The reason I thanked you is cause like I said these are my roots and doing games design made me see games from a technical standpoint which basically meant I couldn't enjoy games anymore because I stopped seeing them through the eyes of a gamer I was becoming apathetic towards gaming I needed a break from the games I usually play and by that i mean modern games RuneScape 3 has reminded me of my beginnings and for the first time I have been enjoying myself wholeheartedly without having to make excuses for a games flaws and complaining about it internally in my head... games are meant for fun and in this day & age I feel alot of people have forgotten how to do that we nitpick at any small issues a game has! by setting me on this path like some winged guardian of mmorpgs you've helped remind me what it is to be a gamer and I thank you for that because I needed this destress and needed to clear my head streaming has felt like a job for a few months now and I needed a break from that too i'm looking forward to your Lost Ark western and Project TL reviews in the future keep up the good work i've been subbed to you for at least half a decade so I definitely see you as a good judger of games! A game with no levelling would have no gameplay loop and dump too many skills on a charater at chargen. It'd put people off. If all characters are forever level 1 but you can learn new skills and gear by completing quests though... Like, ESO has joining guilds unlock whole skill-trees. It also has skill points be gain by picking up collectables when you explore (although that's a huge chore, actually) It'd be cool to have it be where you do a job for a wizard and he teaches you how to cast a magic spell, which you then add to your bar and invest skill points in, and you get like... 1/5th of a skill point for every quest you complete, or something. So you could try to learn everything, or you could just hang out with NPCs who are like what you want your character to be. You wanna learn fireball, hang out with the wizards. You wanna learn how to throw knives at dudes and turn invisible, go play with the assassins in the sewers.
