Once I was riding a train with my two cousins and my cousin accidentally must have stepped on some middle-aged women’s toe and she was in fury immediately. Firstly she made up a story that my cousin stepped on her feet already a few times (which could not be true as the train was steady and she was actually standing in some distance) and said that her toe is actually hurting because of some illness so we were all apologizing but she would still yell and murmur really nasty things about us, also about not having a place to sit (I were sitting in a free space but without an actual seat and my cousins were standing near me). At that point an older lady sitting near told her to stop and that there is a free seat next to her (which I guess none of us noticed), so the women would sit there but she was murmuring to herself quite loudly, and the other lady made a loud comment of her behavior… It was very traumatizing

a little tip from an introvert on how to keep your ground to avoid these scenes: don't be too apologetic about things you know you couldn't do anything about. I realized most of the time someone creates a scene over something i did, it was mostly because i made a big deal about it in the first place, apologized too much and curled up in myself. Instead try to go with a quick little sorry like you're saying you couldn't help it, that way people won't see themselves higher and like they have the right to belittle you. I'm sorry this happened to you.. some people are just too toxic and wait for that moment to take it out on someone vulnerable. So just try not to be that person in the first place :/
@renreninthehouse
Жыл бұрын
Also I would say remember that being too nice is a weakness when dealing with rude people, and you never know who that person is going to be. So just respect yourselves and don't let people you don't know see your vulnerability as an opportunity to bash you. Accidents happen, embarrassing mistakes happen, and they happen to everyone. Try to be in peace with that fact and treat people with just enough kindness but never unnecessarily too much.

This happened to me the first time I went grocery shopping as an adult on my own. It was Thanksgiving week and the store was packed. Every aisle had two lines going down it in opposite directions. We were all going very slow and the older lady in front of me suddenly stopped and I bumped her ankles with my cart on accident. I immediately felt bad and apologized but she just started screaming at me and cussing me out. I just kept saying sorry, I didn't know what else to say. Everyone was staring at us and a man next to us told her to stop because I'd already apologized enough but she just kept calling me every horrible name in the book. I started tearing up and got out of that aisle as fast as I could. After I finished my shopping and was in the parking lot a random guy came up to me and asked if he could pray for me, he had no idea what had just happened. I said yes and it made me feel better. We all need to be nicer towards each other.

Damn;; but seriously, mad props to the ppl who stood up for u. I am myself a foreigner at where i am current living at. And the people here easily fly off the handle over the simplest things. I was at a grocery shop and didnt know there was some sort of 2 for price of 1 deal or something and the cashier screamed into my face for only wanting to buy 1. I insist i only wanted one 🌝 but the woman shouted louder thinking i might not have understood her. There were literally other customers behind me and her voice resonated throughout the entire store. Embarrassing ah. In the end, i just cancelled the item and walked off to put it back on the shelves. Lol. The other patrons just stared and didnt say anything but were definitely visibly uncomfy with the rude lady lol. EDIT: Also, not sure about SK, but the country im mentioning here have citizens who LOVE to emphasise that being straight-forward and stoic is "part of their culture". Um no way lol - I've met plenty of wonderful people and adults who don't lash out at unsuspecting randos. I'm sorry you had to go through that. Not the same, but similar, here in Japan I was on a train when I was physically (not sexually, thank goodness) assaulted. I was sitting with my legs crossed in a train that had dozens of open seats. In Japan, you make yourself as small as possible to make room for others. Crossing your legs takes up more room, but keep in mind this train was extremely vacant. Anyway, an old man walks in and slaps my leg so hard it falls off my other leg, ultimately uncrossing my legs. He sits a few seats down from me and people on the train just kind of stared. I was literally in the middle of learning Japanese on an app on my phone. I was too stunned and my Japanese wasn't good enough to tell him off. But it did ruin my experiences for a while and was just a huge show of xenophobia in Japan. Thankfully now I know how to say "fuck you old patriarchal man, you only treat me like this because I'm foreign" in his language 😇

I started crying because there was nothing else I could do and just like you said, no one did anything. I ended up leaving the train moments before it closed with her in it STILL yelling. NOW!!!” and pointed to the side. Excuse you?? Are you talking to me?? Mind you, that was a park. Idk if it was because I was in front of his way or something but the side walk was huge and he could just said “excuse me, can you please move?” or just go around me!! He looked East Asian but he spoke with perfect English accent when he screamed at me. Either way that’s no excuse to be so mean and aggressive. If he was in such a rush then just go the other way? That was the most bizarre thing that happened to me in a while, everyone around stared at us wide eyed and got startled. I’ve never been screamed like that in my entire life. He was lucky there was no security guards near us, that should be counted as assault. But guess what, I was the one who clearly got embarrassed and started tearing up when it was HIS fault.

I wouldn’t idolize any person or place though, if I were you, it’s sad if your dreams don’t turn out the way you want. I know that there are negative people everywhere of course, but I’m very glad of the culture we generally have here in Australia. Absolutely there are people like that woman here, but there is such a ‘no worries mate’ culture that it really is rare. I lived in the very centre of Sydney for 4 years and took multiple busses daily. This sort of interaction truly was almost unheard of. If one passenger ever yelled at another like this, the driver would immediately pull over and kick them of. Usually while that person was told to piss off by fellow passengers 😅 Once, a racist group of teens was harassing a Muslim woman and her children. Within a minute or two, the driver pulled over at a stop and told them to get off before he called the police. They did, and once the bus got going again, he jumped on the radio to tell all the other busses on route not to pick the group up either!! 😂 I caught his eye from the front disabled seats and he just said ‘they will learn their lesson today by walking’ lol

I had an experience like this (of rude middle aged ladies) where me and my brother were on our way back from school and we managed to get seats (rarely happens that both of us get to sit + we were both so tired). And the train has a few stops where it’ll get quite packed so there was this only lady who had an umbrella and stood in front of us. Important point of the story, at this point, we couldn’t move because the train was super full. Suddenly, the lady starts “thinking out loud” that kids nowadays have no respect for elderly people and can’t give up their seats (or something along those lines). She kept this going and we still didn’t have room to move. At the next stop where most people got down, a girl from the other side got up to give this lady her seat. I didn’t move from the seat and didn’t say a word until we got off at our stop. Honestly, she didn’t even look elderly to me and even if she did, I couldn’t even give up my seat because people came spilling in at that train stop. After that, for years I didn’t sit on the train until after covid lockdowns were lifted no matter how tired I was (I never stopped my brother from sitting tho). Embarrassing experience but honestly I’m more mad than embarrassed now

It is okay your Korean is not good, I was able to get around fine with Google translate, English and bravery. Believe in yourself! Sometimes bad things happen, but it’s the good things that make it worth it, so you just need to have more good moments than bad XD I am anxious too and that’s how I think to encourage myself.

This happened exactly to me, I also live in Korea and at that time I couldn’t speak Korean also, only difference is that I legit had no handle to hold onto and stepped on her twice… while wearing heels.. it wasn’t as if I could help it… 😅

She probably went off at you because you're a "foreigner" to her, so anything you do is your fault... at least there were reasonable people there to stand up for you.

this didn't happen in korea but you're SUPER right abt ppl not wanting to step in-- once when i was small, i think i couldn't have been older than 9-10? i was trying to look after my little sister who was touching stuff at a shop (i was scared she would break it) so i was persuading her to stop and pulling her away from the display, but while backing up i bumped into this white lady and she went FULL karen mode on me, yelled at me for stubbing her toe (it was an accident, i was alr stressed because i had to manage my sister even though my relatives were there, doing nothing), etc etc. her toe was bandaged so i understood it hurt but i did it by mistake. her husband was nice tho, he tried to calm her down and said i was just a kid, but it was so embarrassing to be yelled at that way when i was already stressed. not to mention, my grandpa and auntie were there the whole time, watching me apologize profusely but not saying or doing anything

I'm Korean and same thing happened to me in Hungary. The difference is tho I didn't step on anyones foot. this grandma just tried to shove herself into the packed tram during rush hour and got her tiny backpack stuck between me and the person standing next to me. I got scratched by her backpack in the process but i guess she felt like she was the victim😂 She started to shout stuff in Hungarian which I didn't understand at all. She didn't look at anyone while shouting, so I didn't know it was directed at me. I just felt/noticed it was since people kept looking back and forth at me and her, some were even smirking.. and she repeatedly said a word that sounded like Kina and i learned it meant Chinese in Hungarian, when i googled it up 😂 this traumatized the shit out of me. People around me didn't try to help me or anything, unlike the Koreans who came to your defense.

When I was 9 and in Hong Kong, the person in front of me moved backwards all of a sudden which made me move back as well and I ended up slightly stepping on this old lady’s foot behind me. I said sorry but she started going off and yelling at me with her hands in the air, she even flicked me on the forehead. No one around us said a word.

Your skin is so beautiful. I wish you could do a skin care tutorial bc Korean beauty products are very popular now. You skin looks so beautiful and it glows! I'm so sorry that happened to u on the train. You did the right thing by getting off the train. 🙂👍
