@ExileOnDaytonStreet
3 жыл бұрын
@@720chrisp There are a handful of paths to the NHL, in comparison to the NFL where it's pretty much NCAA→NFL. One route that about 1/3 of the current NHL players take is playing D-I college hockey in the US. The best of those players go straight from NCAA to the NHL, but most of them play at least a little bit in the AHL (the first minor league level below the NHL) first. This guy played college hockey from 2002-2006 at Western Michigan. That's not a college hockey program, but it's one that has some good history and always plays in a decent conference. They were in the CCHA at the time, which was probably the 3rd or best league (out of only 6, but still) in the country at the time. He mostly just played two years and rode the bench the other two, but he played against a lot of guys that eventually went on to pro careers in the NHL. Point being... this guy was a good 10-15 years removed from playing at a pretty good level of hockey, but it's not like he's just some Joe Schmo playing in a beer league.

I was a goalie in footbal/soccer and played for our province team for North Holland! We where 1-0 ahead of Amsterdam! My coach took me out in the last three minutes of the game in a full stadium! I was unawhere of what was going on! I was really sad. Forgot to thank the audience while the whole stadium was clapping for me. My father told me after the game I saved the match! But I was crying and asked him why they took me out. It took me years to understand what really was going on! I was the Hero that match!

Not only did he save 7/7 but he had a few really nice stops in there on a 4v4 and a power play! He played 14 minutes too that’s a lot of time to not get scored on by NHL caliber shooters! Just to play maybe give up a couple over most of a period but up 6-2 win maybe 6-4 or 6-5 and save the game would’ve been excellent but he pitched a shutout with multiple nice stops.. wow!

I know this comment is a year old but... I live in the south hemisphere. Snow is unthinkable here. Never watched a hockey game but the little bits I watch from American shows and internet in general don't properly show why goalies for hockey are special. For me they are like a moving mass who cover 80% of the goal. Can you enlighten for me how hard it is to be a goalie? Would love to see it. Either trough a goalie strategy standpoint or attacking tactics.
@christiandelesie6308
Жыл бұрын
@@dollymix5 imagine how hard it is to be a goalie in soccer. now while the net is smaller so you have to cover less, imagine the ball was the side of a small hand, moving at 150/hm/h, and you need to be agile despite wearing more equipment than any other player of any sport. You need to be able to predict where a shot is coming, if you dont guess right, you pretty much CANT make a save, the puck is too fast. and while goalies do take up a lot of visible space on the net, hockey players are incredibly talented, and can put the puck pretty much anywhere they want, so covering 80% of the net isnt good enough, you need to be able to cover any part of it from any angle and be able to do it quickly. Not to mention all the strategizing you need to do, watching the play, you need to keep your eyes on the puck at all times so you dont let in a goal but at the same time you need to also know where everyone else is on the ice, so you can try to stop any rebound shots when you make the save, and know where your own team is for support, and to watch where enemy players are and prepare to move around really quickly incase the shooter decides to pass it someone else. goalies are also incredibly rare compared to the other players of the game, so finding a goalie is difficult. they perform the hardest job of anyone on the ice, and they have the most important position. a team can function with 1 less forward or defenseman on the ice, a team cannot function properly without its goalie.

@@The_Gallowglass Even the best goalies rust. That's why they need so much more work than regular players before games and at the start of the pre-season to "get warmed up", because there is more to warm up FROM. My guess is that either you dont have much (if any) experience playing as a goalie, or that you're trying to make yourself sound cool
