I can't believe some of the comments either, however, I am sure that the less than 1% of people who viewed this, who REALLY understand what an EMERGENCY REPAIR is, would appreciate the demonstration of this technique. When you have run out of spares, and getting help is nigh on impossible, this could absolutely save your butt !!. True remote travel requires a very thoughtful approach to what you carry in spares and equipment. The other trick is to stuff the tyre with grass or similar, and make your way with that, whatever works !!. An emergency is NOT a case of being stranded 3 minutes from your favourite pizza shop !!, . . . . SHEEESH !!

Dear ATChaser, There is no need to apologize for showing us your technique, whether for off road use or just to save a perfectly good tire with a sidewall injury. Its unfortunate that many people are so safety brainwashed that they can't comprehend this type of a repair. I recently got two very good tires that were in the garbage from a shop that i will attempt to save and then make a cross country road trip. Thank you for an excellent video clearly demonstrating the stitch/patch method. Wishing you all the best in your endeavors.

AWESOME!!! That is a great video! The last time I had a flat in the middle of nowhere, with no spare, it was 2 inch gash in the sidewall! With the little stick still in it, I drove 22 miles home! Only 14 of this was on the steel rim. It was loud so next time I'll try this! thank you!!

I'll say it again, this is EMERGENCY REPAIR. Of course use your spare, of course take your tire to the tire shop. This is for those of us who travel outside of the areas serviced by tow trucks and repair shops, this is when all else fails. When you find yourself in this situation hopefully you will have remembered enough to get yourself out of a bad situation.

I'm liking some of these comments they are very funny :-) As you can all see the title of this video is EMERGENCY Tire repair. This video was designed to help people after they have used up their spare tire, are stuck in the middle of nowhere, and have no other option for repair. As many people have said side wall damage can not be permanently repaired, it can however be repaired as a temporary fix to get you out of a difficult situation when no other option is available.

Are these patches available in Australia ? Looks a good emergency repair for low speed outback repair. As for cord , could you use heavy braided fishing line ? Can't why it wouldn't work. Emergency repair of a tire should not require the removal of the tire to gain access to the inside wall to prep the surface. This video makes it look easier than it really is. You need a bead breaker as a minimum. The video is good as a demo, but not practial.
@ATChaser
7 жыл бұрын
If the damage can not be repaired using plugs then yes the tire does need to be removed. We have a number of tools for the field repair, store.adventuretrailers.com/tyrepliers-beadbreaker/, store.adventuretrailers.com/products/Deluxe-Tire-Iron.html. Again a reminder to people this is EMERGENCY repair only.

He has half the sidewall sliced open. If it was just a Nail hole - you could try just installing an old fashioned Rubber Inner Tube in an emergency situation where you were in a Jungle or desert with no replacement tires available. You would even be better off riding on a Donut sized spare tire that this.

You forgot to mention that when inflating they should do it bolted onto the vehicle and be more than 2 meters away and have the valve core removed. They should then drive at reduced speed directly to a place of repair and inform them of what they have done so the air can be removed asap. Following your advice and then inflating the tyre as normal could kill someone.

Can you bother to post the URL of ANY PLACE AT ALL that sells this patch kit???? Surely if you rack your brain, you can remember where you bought it.
Some sidewall punctures are deliberate and they are probably caused by drunks using darts on the tyre whilst on their way home from the pub. Often the punctured tyre will stay inflated for a day or more but the slow punctures are still a nuisance. It may be possible to paint the inside of the tyre with Halfords Tyre Black or similar as this "paint" is supposed to amalgamate with the original rubber. The $64,000 question is "Why isn't all this scum in prison or wearing ankle tags?"

Where is the disclaimer that the tire most likely will blow out in short order? If I were stranded and there were no other option, yeah, but I would keep it under 25 mph and go straight to a tire repair shop and have it replaced. THIS IS NOT A PROPER OR SAFE REPAIR PROCEDURE! Every shop I know will not even repair a tiny pin hole anywhere near the sidewall because of liability reasons. I have put patches on many a (TINY) sidewall puncture and had them last until the tread was worn out.

PeterFied FM ive used a black rubber caulking and a old paint roller, squeeze a good amount over the ole or use the whole tube and roll it on thick woth the roller, let it dry for a littlw. while then put it on the rim and pump it up it works amazing on old dry rotted tired that leak or small holes like when you get a nail or screw in yourvtire and its like $3 a tube

This is for when you're out in the middle of the desert, not for a roadside "emergency" where AAA is available. When you air down your tires to go through deep sand, they can get cut pretty easily by rocks that are just under the surface. It's happened to me lots of times. I've always just put on the spare and headed for the nearest road.
