In this video game the character of Emil is someone who maintains the very best motivation despite facing massive challenges. He does everything right, all the time, but nevertheless finds that he eventually has to make the ultimate sacrifice: "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." This beautiful music captures that sense of love, innocence, inner strength and ultimate loss.
A few days ago I was delighted to welcome a new subscriber who suggested that I play this song. Well, I was thrilled to be introduced to this lovely music, and here's my rendition. There was a natural opportunity to use the high register of the beautiful Clarabella Flute stop in the section starting at 1:08. And, in the section beginning at 1:52, I've weaved in another gorgeous tune with a similar theme of personal sacrifice. It just seemed to fit musically and thematically, and it came to me immediately. But can you spot which song it is ...?
I always like my arrangements to end in a way which is appropriate (of course!) and also, where I can, unique. I tried a few different endings for this piece. Hopefully I got somewhere near an appropriate conclusion for this sorrowful story of a beautiful soul, tragically lost.
