Stuttering as a kid, I can tell this is real. It’s like that, you have a specific word or words with a specific first letter and you already know when the sentence is leading there that you will be stuck because suddenly the air shuts down and you can’t get the word out. Stutterer often try to be inventive and form the sentence around these dreaded words, takes quite some efforts and ad hoc thinking.

I don't have a stutter as an excuse but I was traumatized in high school while trying to learn French at the same time I was 5 years behind my new class trying to catch up in English. I do the exact same thing when I try to speak French, which is I go completely blank, especially with easy words and the words which are the same in both languages. I'm now fluent in German (having lived & worked here for 36 years) but when it comes to French, which I practice every day, I'm back in high school traumatized and unable to speak or hear it properly, although I can read and comprehend at about 70%.

Don’t blame speech to text for not being able to render her bad French accented “same as” as Simon. Unfortunately English has dozens of names for handsome cabriolets, so finding the cognate is not so easy. With French you just have to unnasalize the French noun and you have an English/American noun. Maybe not the bon mot but something comprehendible.

A lot of people really do not understand what a true stutter is. Characters like Porky Pig, and common imitations of stuttering are wildly inaccurate (duh!) representations of what a real stutter sounds like. When I was a boy, I knew a young man with a stutter. He was a great guy, a leader, mentor to us younger kids. But he had a stutter, and it often took him some time to get through a sentence. But he did public speaking, and all that; he was simply himself. I think the world of Dame Helen Mirren; I'm sure she meant no disrespect in her attempt at a French stutter. But it was a little out of line. Michael Palin's character in "A Fish Called Wanda" actually does a pretty good representation of what a stutter is like. It is a comedy, and the major asshole character makes fun of his stutter, but John Cleese's character is more patient with him; even when the situation is dire and he loses his temper, he apologizes for it. Many quite famous actors and orators have had stutters. James Earl Jones did. Many stutterers, in their desire to overcome that impediment to flowing speech, go through training and exercises that most regular people never do, and some of them use that experience to actually become very eloquent speakers.
@ralphdougherty1844

Yes Helen shouldn’t have done that…I’m the type that would have stopped speaking immediately and glared at her to get my point across that she’s not funny. Sure she didn’t mean any harm but my speech is not something I enjoy being made fun of. I actually have told people to shut the fuck up and walked away mid sentence for doing just that.
