Eminem’s emphasis of certain vowel sounds over long verses while keeping the rhythm and rhymes is so masterful. You can see it here where he emphasizes those U (“you”) sounds in the first verse then in the second switches to the A emphasis and then I emphasis before the short Uhh emphasis makes it so smooth.

@Yoloslides

because Jay pulls his verses right from his mind and experiences so they flow much more naturally. Eminem actually sits down and writes his rhymes line for line so they fit together the way they do. That's why his flow sounds much more linear with the "perfect" words, because he literally designs it that way. Jay's flow is more natural and the rhyme schemes are unorthodox with a much more natural delivery because he writes in his head and rehearses on the spot by mumbling. What takes the average rapper 20-30 min to write, Jay can think up in 5-10. Combine that with the references, the double and triple entendres AND the fact that he's talking about his real life and true events, you realize he's an alien. That's a lot harder to do whereas Em can say wild stuff like "Go to war with the Mormons" and everyone goes crazy lol.

That being said, when this song dropped the consensus was that Eminem overshadowed Jay-Z and even Nas was quick to point it out on Ether. I love the conversations and in depth thoughts about the rap music you are listening to. Its great to see your perspective on them and i love seeing you enjoy them for what they are, appreciating the lyrics and stories being told, Not like so many others of the older generation with the same closed mined opinions that rap is just gangster shit and gives the wrong message to those who listen!!! this Dad is wicked

I agree with you regarding who had the better verse. When it first came out I felt it was Em but now I feel Jay’s second verse takes the cake.

Love they way your face lights up when your dad understands a deeper meaning to the lyrics. Like when he said jay was a messenger for his community 🙏🏽

I was so geeked up like a little kid when Dad knew Jay's voice 🙌🏽 🤗 I totally relate to Kye stopping right there at the first verse to pick apart those Jay lines and Dad please don't apologize for dissecting there, sometimes it's necessary ☺️ Y'all know Jay is my favorite rapper so no need to state who I liked better here but in terms of favorite Jay albums, surprisingly mine is American Gangster 🤷🏽♀️ It's just the one I relate to the most.

Love this song!! Em absolutely killed it on this track!! I love the relationship you have with your dad!! I lost my father to suicide a few years ago unfortunately.!! Cherish the time you have with your brilliant father, he seem like such a cool man! I think you guys should listen to Hailey's song and or mockingbird. Or a reaction to the Eminem show album maybe? Thanks for another great video guys.!!

@Aaron 88 yeah Jay Z verses are good 👍 don't get me wrong!! I'm just a huge Eminem fan and I think he outdid Jay in this track🤷 just mu opinion.! And of course who doesn't love 2pac !! 2pac and Em are the G.O.A.T.S in my opinion but I'm very open minded I like alot of other artists in the rap game of course. Biggie, Nas, 50 cent, The Game, Dre, Wu Tang, DMX etc

@Aaron 88 yeah I'm not a big Jay Z fan either. But man I think EM destroyed it in this tune! Just my opinion 🤷 each to their own. You have your opinion and I respect it. At least we have something in common, we're both huge fans of Eminem 👍

First off. I really enjoy your discussions. Second. I was 20 when this song came out. Words can't describe the impact it had. These are two of the best, doing what they do best. They were both at the very top when this song came out. There was a lot of discussion about who had the better verse (still to this day). But this song is not meant to compare the two artists. They both were incredible in thier own unique way. It's just such an amazing song by a couple of the best rappers to ever do it.

This song made all rappers afraid to feature em because he would majorly out do them on their own song. The only rapper I've ever heard that could keep up was sticky fingaz on em's song.

Eminem Produced the Beat and his Lyrics Before Jay-Z bought it, which is crazy when u Think bout it that it was already Done Eminem did mix after Jay-Z put his Verse on it "Renegade" was originally recorded by Bad Meets Evil, a hip hop duo with Eminem and Royce da 5'9" Eminem did not have physical access to the reel it was recorded on at the time. Knowing Jay-Z was working to a short deadline, Eminem decided to offer him "Renegade" instead. After Royce da 5'9" granted his approval, Jay-Z recorded his own vocals in place of Royce's and sent them back to Eminem, who mixed them together into the final version of the song. So i think it is Crazy that Eminem went off and is mostly overlooked on this Track, just thinking about that he "did" not change anything to out perform Jay, he demolisched him.
