So introspectively speaking I think Slim Shady is also impossible to bring back for Em because it might be attached to Marshall’s drug use. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he ended the entire album with this “ what if I never stop doing drugs “ track. Even throughout the album Slim Shady is forcing pills, forcing drinks down marshals throat in order for him to basically become Slim Shady. there’s even one skit Slim Shady says that he will break the pill in half and take some himself. So if Eminem brings back Slim Shady and chases his old self I feel like it might lead him back to old habits which are bad habits.

And it goes much deeper than just that because we can all relate to things like regrets we may have, the inner battles we go through, the way the world may try to change us or even not accept us for who we are now. Even in somebody save me. Thats what eminem wouldve been…he wouldve just never had those moments that he does have if he fell back into drugs. There are so many themes and even subtle themes tackled in this album that you really can miss if you are looking at it at face value. We all have parents who maybe we were little harsh too or said the wrong thing or took something for granted or vise versa with kids. I feel like another major point Eminem was trying to make with this album is that we all weren’t really listening. We were all just hung up on his slim shady style and wanted it back. So much so that our perception of his albums were more biased than we may know. After this album, I went back and listened to his more recent albums but not from the perspective of ‘I hope he brings back old Em style’… and holy shit, it hits different. What I took from this album is telling us we don’t want slim shady back, we want that feeling we got listening to slim shady for the first time back. To take it deeper, as a recovering drug addict, the addiction comes from chasing that feeling you got the first time. It tricks you into believing you love it when in actuality it’s making you miserable. But you’re looking for that feeling when it’s impossible to get. We can never get the feeling of hearing it for the first time again. So stop searching and appreciate what you’ve got. Might’ve butchered that a lil but I hope the point makes sense. Even with that, I personally enjoy a lot of these songs on their own as songs. But I understand and agree w the point it’s making.

I think that's a very good take, but I think this album is SUPPOSED to be layered. As Scru said, it's therapy - confronting and facing the fact that we ALL have contradictions as humans, and that's ok! Therapy is NOT about "getting rid" of what's wrong with you, but coming to terms with it. The main goal of therapy is ALWAYS to come out saying "I'm a work in progress, and always WILL be, and that's ok." It's BOTH him going on that journey, AND us being invited to come along. That's why people who aren't willing to go through that full journey don't get it!

I personally think em is one of the best if not best rapper of all time and people may agree or disagree. But something that stuck out to me on this break down was, you pointing out how he has all these flows and obviously you and a lot of other fans like one pocket more than another and can’t understand why he doesn’t do more full songs or even albums in that pocket or flow!! And that to me is why I feel he’s so good, because he knows what everyone wants and likes but isn’t just any other rapper like a lot of these copy’s we see today, that just find their pocket and sick in it to appease the fans! Em has always pushed the envelope and tried new things and made the genre of hip hop even better with his quirky jokes and crazy beats and different flows that can work together and still bump. Maybe I’m one of the few that can appreciate that to that level but that’s what’s always set Em apart for me!! Anyways I loved the review and album breakdown, you really nailed it on the message he is giving and congratulations on the new single, love you’re stuff brother keep up the amazing videos ❤

Awesome rundown - just finished and listening to the last song again when you went ‘but he did walk her down the aisle’ made me think ‘what if it’s the perspective of Slim since sobering up and being killed off’. Slim didn’t get to do those things, Em did. Em rapping at slim why he had to let go, why slim isn’t welcome anymore, all the things he is getting to do cause Slim isn’t in charge no more. Slim wouldn’t have been capable - he’s a lost cause and damaged beyond repair.

Dawg.....i listened at midnight so I was an hour and 40 minutes into listening and breaking it down by the time I got to temporary it was almost 2am.... That's the time all your realest thoughts come..... And Eminem had me BAWLING at 2am with that track.... I've had a helluva journey thru life that closely related to Eminems life growing up, single mom and saw her beat every night from birth to 13..... She died 5 yrs ago when I was 30 and I had elevated my mind up to that point where she used to tell me she wished I had a father like I am to my daughters and son and maybe we wouldn't have had to go thru those things.. wouldn't been a alcoholic by 17....I've quit now for 12 years......anyways ... It wasn't til she was gone that I truly had questions about that time period.... Trying to learn how to be the best Dad and Husband while battling instinct and realizing responses and actions are dictated by the subconscious and although you have thoughts of how to reacto or conversation to have its an active battle..... Song crushed me at 2am 😂

I balled like a baby when I heard Temporary. Im a Dad to 14 year old, I lost my Mom to cancer 2 years ago and I felt everything from my fears for my daughter when I go. To the fears my Mom had when it came to our family. Beautiful song for sure

I agree both sides of the fence have a misconception of this album the Stans of Em and the haters or even including the casual listener of Em's music. Em isn't "going at Gen Z" it isn't that cut and dry. It's a reflection of himself and the "Slim Shady" part of him, he's intentionally bringing out Shady because without him he couldn't do that concept or the whole "trying to get canceled" thing. And there is no death for Slim Shady in the overall grand scheme of things, it's a part of him. The point isn't to say that it's over, the point is acknowledging Shady is part of Em for better or worse. This album is nothing but flames, Shady keeps outdoing himself it's just incomparable at this point the way he pushes his penmanship. And I must say "Music To Be Murdered By" & "The Death of Slim Shady (Coupe de Grâce)" slap different when you are apart of it's history. I'm so grateful The GOAT Eminem is giving us top tier music this far into his career, this album has no skips! The production sounds the cleanest since "Relapse" where I felt completely immersed within' the listening experience/journey and I feel that credit has to go to Luis Resto who has been working with Marshall since "The Eminem Show" (2002) this album is hella theatrical but also extremely cinematic and the sequences are superb. Em definitely deserves all the praise to come for creating an amazing body of work this far into his recording career, this is truly 100% an undeniable standout in his discography.🐐🔥🎯💯(My Top 5 Tracks: 1) Antichrist 2) Habits 3) Lucifer 4) Renaissance 5) Evil Honorable Mentions: Guilty Conscience 2,Road Rage,Head Honcho,Bad One & Fuel)

This is why I'm not buying the "listen to it in reverse" thing that's been going around. This album is art the way it is. And shows how Eminem feels about Slim. No need to reach for something that's not really there.

Since I’m 21, I was like 1 in a half when Encore came out. But my funny moment when first hearing the Brand New Dance song, I literally said “Bet ya that Chris Reeves song was recorded in 2004 for Encore but why?” And then a few songs later I realized that he died before the album came out. It’s like this album is answering most people’s questions 😂

Yo, good reaction. But you need to stop whining about the "choppy flows". Isn't it obvious that most of his fans love it? I love it. The thing with em is that he is versatile. He knows people have different tastes. That's why he switches flows as often as he does so each person gets to focus on and enjoy the particular cadence they love. Also, be honest, you would get bored soon if he just sticks to that one type of flow you like in all his songs. Variety spices things up.

I feel like people often forget that this man literally had to relearn how to write and rap after his overdose. His brain was literally permanently affected by that. So it pains me when the R albums get ripped. I feel that “Music to be Murdered By” was severely underrated. But I definitely feel that this album has reignited something in Eminem and the concept of this was not only genius but necessary to understand where he’s at in life.

If you listen to it backwards it flows a little better but it also shows the album as the death of Marshal Mathers with spitting on the grave of Marshal before the final song which like you said sounds like slim for the whole song. Also the ken kiniff track flows better going into tobey better than after

The EZ Mil line about being a Queen is in reference to chess its played on a check (cheque) board and the Queen is the piece that can move the fastest and do the most damage. Where the king moves slowly and is the most vulnerable piece. "You pawns to me" the sacrificial piece in the front row.
